Yoga Video?

This is a bit different from other things people have asked the Hive Mind but I’m doing it anyways.

I started doing yoga a few months ago and I love it. However, my class (which was definitely in my price range) is ending soon and I can’t afford any of the other classes in my area (poor grad student and all). I know there are a ton of yoga videos out there, and I’d like to keep practicing until I either save enough money for another class or find a class that’s not as pricey, so I was considering getting one of the DVDs. However, there are a gazillion out there and I have no way of judging them one way or the other.

So, in my roundabout way, does anyone have any recommendations for yoga practice videos?

I’ve had good luck with yoga DVDs from Gaiam in the past.

I’m in the same boat regarding my yoga class, and will be joining you in following DVD instruction for a bit.

Good luck finding something.

I can’t recommend enough: “Ali Macgraw Yoga Mind&body.” You get a little bit of everything, power, flow, restoration, stretching, without it being too instructional so you can watch it again and again. Nice background music, nice direction, not too chatty, respectful, and yet not too hippyish. I had no idea who Ali Macgraw was when I got it, but it was recommended so I tried and I am SO glad I did. It was done in 1984 and is still the best selling yoga video out there. Another plus: it doesn’t require any investment in props like most of the other ones out there do that just drive me crazy - I just refuse to spend $40 on a purple foam cushion…Here’s a link to it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Ali-MacGraw-Yoga-Mind-Body/dp/B0000DI88C/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1236567631&sr=8-1

I have directv and I can highly recomend “Namaste Yoga” on Fit TV, and also, believe it or not the BYU Channel, has some good yoga, “Total Body Workout.”

I looked into yoga briefly. Didn’t wind up doing it, but I got some decent pointers.

I misplaced the video recommendations, but one person steered me toward YogaToday.com , which has streaming workouts. Another reminded me that libraries often stock all kinds of yoga vids, so you can check 'em out cheap.

It really depends on what you are looking for, there are so many different styles. I don’t like Power Yoga but if you do “Power Yoga for Happiness” is a good one. A good general one is Yoga Zone: Flexibility and Stress Release with Alan Finger. I really like Gary Kraftsow’s two videos for back pain and Yoga Link: Shoulder Shape-Up with Jill Miller for my shoulder problems. Kundalini for Beginners & Beyond by Ravi Singh is a favorite for moving energy.

If you have a netflix account try a bunch! And here is a great site for reviews http://www.videofitness.com/reviews/yoga.php

Oh and I second the “Yoga Today” recomendation, they even do a Star Wars yoga on there!
