She allowed him to do it. Basically, the last shred of her humanity saved them all.
The original Phoenix also killed herself rather than allow her friends to come to harm.

But this isn’t an everyone…this is the most powerful mutant alive. Can you imagine if she entered puberty with these powers unchecked? Unguided?
It’s quite possible that Santa is an X-men. I mean, why else would they call it X-mas?
Yep. However, I am sure the question will continue. If they don’t take my call or don’t defend their position in a way that you agree with go ahead and call in next week to continue the discussion.
Agreed- I just didn’t like Xavier’s attitude with Wolvie about it.
I said that two hours ago. Teens are hard to handle without the powers. Teen attitude and the ability to kill, crush etc. She would not have live or others would have died with one emotional outburst.
Just thinking about it has me running for my bunk. You saw that scene with Wolvie and Jean right? With the belt buckle.
What do you mean? Example?
I got “yelled” at for a shirt comment. Really!
Santa is a mutant. That so fits. I can see it now. Down at the mall, screaming at ol’ St. Nick, “You Mutant freak!!” while the children run away crying. Get you polaroids ready!!
I didn’t get a chance to respond to that earlier, sorry.
I agree that she needed to be controlled, but I really didn’t like Xavier’s attitude about it. And I think she should’ve been taught to control it in the intervening years. Instead, Xavier just left the “cage” in place. A meltdown was bound to happen.
Yeah, I absolutely agree with you. I have a small problem with Sean’s “Prof X is worse than Magneto, because he doesn’t kill you he alters your core being” theory. You know what’s worse than my core identity, my inner self and my free will being subverted away from me? Dying!
In the end, they all have the luxury of philosophizing about good and evil, and about what’s fair or unfair. But the moment they perceive a threat to their own welfare, they do what they can with their power to protect themselves. Prof X does, Magneto does and the humans do as well. Whether the perceive threat was real or not is a different matter all together. Regardless of which side one takes in this debate, one thing is clear: none of these people can claim moral superiority over one another, in cause or in methods.
Ooh, it’s a bit hot! Run away! Run away!
Of course not. I just dislike this whole continuity with Phoenix. The original storyline was so much grander. She wasn’t a powerful mutant with super-PMS. She was a cosmic godlike entity, trapped in human form, at the whim of human emotion. This Phoenix kills hundreds. The original ATE STARS!!!
True. I guess Prof. X took responsibility for Jean as a parent would.
But when she became a responsible adult, I’d argue that he should have completely been open about what we was doing with her mind.
And I suspect he was not.
Details!

I agree. Oh does that happen much on the GWC forums?
True…but we just saw what happened when she was left free to discover it herself.
<snick>
Instead of talking to him, he just says “I don’t have to explain myself.”
It was just pompous and overbearing.
Hey, save that kind of talk for the gutter.
Oh, you meant actual stars? Not like Lindsay Lohan and such?
It always come down to them against us. The them and us change but what happens never does.
