Vivendi Universal Games Announces Battlestar Galactica Headed to North American Retailers
LOS ANGELES, CA (October, 27 2003) - Vivendi Universal Games is counting-down to the launch of its action-packed space shooter, Battlestar Galactica, with the announcement that the game has gone gold and will ship to North American retailers on November 18th for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and Xbox™ video game system from Microsoft. Set 40 years before the events of the classic TV series, Battlestar Galactica follows the adventures of fledgling Viper pilot, Ensign William Adama on his fist assignment onboard the Galactica. As Adama, players will engage in awesome arcade action as they take control of the hottest fighters in the galaxy, and tangle with dozens of swarming Cylon fighters in massive space battles. Additionally, players will get a chance to pilot a wide array of ships, from sleek vipers to heavy bombers and take command of an elite cadre of wingmen that increase in experience and skill as the game unfolds. The title has been rated “T” by the ESRB and carries descriptors for mild violence.
Looks like a new game to me. The old one was PS2/Xbox, and this has a different package and is for the PC.
Just did some web-fu and found the site for this game. It’s new. (who knows if it will be good)

That sounds exactly like the old one . . . I think it is the old one and amazon are releasing it now
Based on the screenshots it looks like a different game to the one released 4 years ago by Vivendi for the xbox/ps2. That game sucked alpaca b@lls as far as I am concerned.
I see that this new game is for PC and xbox360. The Vipers and Raiders match the models used in the scifi series. Maybe it’s an extension of the xboxlive arcade game that is coming soon.

It’s a new game. It was announced way back in January or so (I’ve been salivating for it like Pavlov’s dogs for some time…though now, I don’t know…). I was expecting something a little more complex than what Amazon’s description presents. I just hope they’ve improved on the PS2/XBox game from four years ago, cause that was a frustrating, sucky game (thanks in great part to the lack of save-game points. You could spend hours playing and lose all of your progress if you got killed before the right spot. ARRRGH!).
I think I’d rather have the Freespace 2 mod, Beyond the Redline. I think it was breifly mentioned in the podcast a couple of months back. Once it is complete it should be awesome, combat landing (if implemented) should be especially fun.

I do have the old BSG game for the PS2 I just can’t get past the first level.

This is actually going to be a top down style shooter, for the most part. It’s not a flight sim or anything. I think it’s to test the waters for BSG games.
I couldn’t get past the part where you have to blow up the things on the asteroid… when I did… I could never get away in time and it would blow up and kill me. I gave up after about 30 tries… but I was pumped when I started playing it.
so info that i found today says that it is PC and XBOX Live and that it is out 10/23/07 for PC and 10/24/07 for Live…

I can’t wait got my points all ready… although it does look a little like Wing Commander: Arena that came out a couple months ago on XBL.
IGN says the game is quite a bit better than Wing Commander Arena, so I’m pretty excited. I can’t wait to play!

Just downloaded the trial version of the BSG game off xbox live. WOW….yeah it sucks. The fact that it’s a top down game threw me off at first. The nail in the coffin was discovering that my Viper2 had some kind of energy force field. I personally think the game is :mad:craaaaaaaaaaaapppp:mad:, but anywho its on live now so you can check it out for free before you buy it.

A FORCEFIELD around Vipers? Oh Gods give me strength. I’ll give it a look but to be honest I was hoping for something a little closer to the series.

Did you see what I was talking about with the force field (either left trigger or left bumper.) but what is this 360 game you speak of? I had assumed it was just a live game not a regular retail game.

Seriously though how hard is it to make a frakin BSG game? No really! The story is already established, as is are the physics and ship designs. Does someone need a “connect the dots book” on how to make a “good SCIFI game”??!!!

Cool, I’d like to see RDM be involved with making a game. Anyone else catch that Kobol was spelt incorrectly in that article
