Wikipedia Anti-SOPA Blackout

Tomorrow, January 18th, Wikipedia will be boycotting a U.S. bill proposal with their first political protest ever, the English Wikipedia Anti-SOPA Blackout. They will be limiting the blackout to only the English edition of the website.

Oh man, how is congress going to look up all the internet terminology when they’re voting on SOPA if Wikipedia is in blackout?

They will fallback on Urban Dictionary.
That would be a very interesting day.

I wrote this status on FB and some friends have started resharing it so I figured I’d mention it here too:

With so many sites down for the 18th in protest of SOPA/PIPA, it’s going to be a long day. That said, the awareness this mass protest will create is necessary for the continuing freedom of the Internet. The legislation being proposed will, if put into effect, have a chilling effect on free communication of ideas, speech, and the many things that come with an open medium for discourse.

The inconvenience you feel will be short-lived, but it’s better than the long-lived effects of tyranny that inaction would bring.
