Who's Worse: Gaeta Or Baltar?

Given the recent revelations in BSG up to now, I wonder who’s the worse traitor to humanity: Gaeta or Baltar. Baltar’s treason was on an astronomical scale, leading to death of many billions. On the hand, he can claim that he didn’t know what he was doing, and he was merely a pawn in Cylon’s espionage, whereas Gaeta clearly has a full knowledge of his actions, and he is doing it voluntarily with no gun on his head.

Which begs the question… who’s worse? Use whatever criteria you feel appropriate to make this moral judgment. Or, if you feel someone else is a worse person than, either, feel free to elaborate!

(Just a quick note for newbies: In many of these polls, the last option is an extraneous “Baltar”. That is GWC equivalent of “Others” or “None of The Above”.)

Baltar

Dude traded a nuclear bomb for sex with the enemy. killing a good chunk of the fleet. not even close.

Baltar didn’t know what he was doing, and couldn’t have. Sure the sexy lady was probably up to no good but how could he have known she was a Cylon? Even if he had found out and tried to warn people, no one would have believed him. 40 years and they were walking metal clunkards… now suddenly they have human versions? Wouldn’t have flown.

Gaeta probably thinks what he is doing is right, but it’s still wrong because he is proactively causing and ordering the deaths of many. He purposefully mislead and lied, boldfaced, to people who have put their lives on the line for him and kept him alive.

Baltar is guilty of being an idiot, Gaeta is guilty of high treason.

Gaeta.
Because he’s a fraking douchebag.
I dont need any other reason.

Ever since he grew that jheri curl he’s changed.

In the beginning, I thought that Gaeta maybe committing treason, but he’s doing what he believes is right. But that particular argument when right out the airlock when he watched Zarek kill Laird and did nothing to prevent it. In fact, he didn’t even feign a protest after the deed. His men had the hanger deck, Laird wasn’t armed, and Gaeta had plenty of time and manpower to either try to talk him into joining him, restrain him or knock him unconscious.

Instead, he realize at that point, or had known all along, that a lot of people will die for what he wants to achieve today, even someone completely innocent who voiced no opinion one way or another, someone who was given no chance to choose his fate.

Killing Laird is just so messed up.
He had nothing to do with anything.
I mean in the grand scheme of things he wasnt even supposed to be in the entire situation he was thrown into. He was just a civilian.
And just when he gets his life back together as chief of the deck, hes killed.

Baltar was a patsy.

Gaeta knows what he is doing.

Gata is a jerk. Thats it. Baltar at least will stab you in the front, at least has some form of morality, no matter how twisted. Gata is not just a traitor, but a willing traitor, who I believe doesn’t really care about the properly governed. I think he is dealing with gult. And, its got us to where we are now.

Gata thinks he’s bigger, and smarter, and more importent then he really is.

Gaeta. He’s doing everything with full knowledge… Baltar’s just kinda an idiot.

Tory and Gaeta belong in the airlock together. I’m still thinking about the other douches that belong there with them.

I have to go with the Geata group on this one. Baltar is not a good person, but his decisions, while stupid on a scale that can’t really be measured, is not the same as deciding to kill a number of innocents because you feel guilty and want to have some revenge on the person that has wronged you.

Geata willfully chose the path he is on, knowing that it would cost the lives of his shipmates and civilians, and doesn’t appear to be showing any small amount of remorse for those who have lost their lives to this action.

Pretty much sums up how I feel. Gaeta is bitter, sad and clings to ego maniacs for support.

Let Kara at him.

Gaeta. He’s a sneaky, backstabbing, powerhungry, little weasle who tries to gain power by placing himself near powerful people. He can conveniently ‘forget’ the bad things he has done until forcibly reminded whereupon he kills or tries to kill the person who made him remember his wrongs.

Geata for all the reasons already mentioned. Although I do disagree with the idea of letting Starbuck at him, that would be too quick and painless. The way he was scratching at his stump… I say lock him up, take away his stump butter, give him a pen and wait.

I have to go with Gaeta, because of the above reasons.

I’m going with Baltar. If it had just been giving Six the information in the miniseries, my vote might have been different, but he handed a nuke to Gina just becaue Roslin pissed him off. That transcends idiot-hood.

Got to go with Gaeta. He’s a total Douchebag and is doing all of this will full knowledge and intent.

Baltar is just - well - stupid.

Baltar always looks after himself first. Gaeta honestly believes he is working for the common good. I don’t agree, but he is trying to make his world better. Baltar rarely thinks of others. I voted for Baltar.

Baltar has morality?!?!

Baltar’s one moral code is: Save My Ass. Even Roslin acknowledged it this week. She didn’t lean on his better nature, but on his finally honed sense of self-preservation.

Gaeta’s acting on A LOT of guilt and bitterness, no question. But he also believes that Roslin and Adama are in the wrong. And it didn’t take his own personal safety being threatened for him to take action.

That said, you know you’re really far gone when Baltar’s the one who has to remind you that you’re a good man.

I agree with you somewhat. But I think Gaeta ultimately is in over his head. He came to a tipping point after he came back from the webisode arc, and post Earth, he just lost his frakkin mind.

He loses part of his leg to Anders, a Cylon. He gets frakked over by Cylons on the raptor in “face of the enemy”. He witnesses Dee offing herself and the list goes on. He’s definitely wanting to do something about the past wrongs he committed in the past and feels like with no hope in the future, this is the only thing that will keep the fleet from falling apart.

I do see a big evolution of his character as being that naive, rookie officer in the CiC to now trying to make the best out of an already horrible situation.

I do see that he is emotional, not thinking rationally, and turning on people that have protected, cared, and has stood by him all through now.
