Gaeta. I don’t care if he thinks he’s right—he had no business other than douch-ness to talk to Starbuck that way. And god, that woman gets my respect after handling him like that. I only wish we’d been able to see her confront/talk to Sam about it, and unfortunately the preview for next week has me worried on that front.
She’s a nutball that can go either way at this point. But I’m pretty sure she would go with Adama even if I think he’s wrong to force the issue with the cylons.
People just got all their hope crushed and you’re shoving down alliance with the enemy who killed all their family and friends (and were not even talking about New Caprica). Maybe a complete surrender and refugee status for the cylons would help but as cooperation with equal status, I don’t think that will pass. Maybe after 10-20 years working the Thilium ship the cylons could regain their freedom.
With Kara existential crisis I’m wondering what she will become. Either way I would give her another poo ship and send her away. On your side or not I’m not sure right now she’s the best ally you can have.
Wow, that’s Starbuck level of snark! Bravo
And the morning after - I can see where the other characters have screwed up, but Gaeta’s just the worst of all of them. That’s not to say that there isn’t motivation for him to have his attitudes (wrong though they are), but his actions are waaaaaaaaaaaay crappy.
Then again, there is only one person in the whole fleet (to our knowledge) who is “whatever it is” enough to “call out” God, just when things cannot get much worse, and demand a personal apology - BSG’s very own Jim Jones - the one, the only Gaius Baltar.
Now, I have not thought and do not think that there is a divine being that has been pulling the strings of the humans and Cylons and I could be way off on this - but “double daring” God may have undesirable ramifications. If so, hopefully they will just be so for Baltar, but generally that is not the way things work out.
I wondered why Head Six didn’t show up sometime during that scene. She’s confronted Baltar on blasphemy before…
Man, oh man, Gaeta.
If it weren’t for the webisodes, I’d think he’s a political social climber after 4.5x13.
On new Caprica, he became VP because he wanted to stay with Baltar.
On this New Deal, he’s going to come onboard with Zarek.
No wonder Tigh thinks he’s a traitor through and through.
But, yeah, it’s very good for the story Can’t wait for next week.
Nobody likes a wet blanket around when the blasphemy really gets going. Or, the fact that she was not around to deter him may indicate that something is going to come of his double dare.
Glad I was not the only one thinking that Kara should have hit him. I was cheering her on. Thanks Casilda.
Even though Tory was not in this episode, she absolutely has my vote. Primarily for what she did to Cally. Although, now with the news out about Nicky, I wonder if she will slip up, and say, “well, I guess I could have airlocked him too.”
She’s probably keeping her distance to avoid the bolt of lightning.
(I’m reminded of the South Park episode “Christian Rock Hard”, in which Token and Butters edge away from Cartman after a particularly blasphemous statement, but I’m at work, so I can’t get on YouTube right now.)
Remember toward the end of Exodus, when Gaeta’s got a gun to Baltar’s head, Baltar says to Gaeta that, he, Gaeta, is an idealist. The statement is intended to explain why Gaeta stayed even after Zarek left. I think that part of his character’s driving him here. There are a lot of other things involved, but I think Gaeta’s repeating the mistakes that lead him to serve in Baltar’s administration.
He’s become a dark idealist, like communists or Anakin Skywalker. He wants to destroy the bad status quo with little real thought about what will replace it.
I thought so too, but I think it’s more of an insult for her not to. She’s Starbuck, she hits everyone; for her not to hit Gaeta is to say that she thinks him unworthy of even that.
Ooh, excellent analysis. I’ve always thought Gaeta was one step away from being Baltar-crazy, but maybe it’s Anakin-crazy instead.
So is Baltar Obi Wan or Qui Gon?
“Destroying the status quo, because the status is…not quo…”
You hit the nail on the head. Gaeta is Dr. Horrible–perfect!
are you saying all he wants is a Shiny New Australia?
To add to what someone said on the after frak party, and to take a qoute from Chuck about a cahracter from x-men and change the names…Tori will sab you in the front, Gata will stab you in the back…
Gaeta for sure. I was surprised at Emily’s vote.
Bah. At best, he’s Moist.
I’m pretty sure Gaeta was egging her on with all the insults on purpose. As soon as he walked into the rec room, he looked around and realized most of the people in the room were people who could be talked into his rebellious cause, with one notable exception: Starbuck. Then he went straight to her and proceeded to piss her off, in order to make her storm out of the room, as she often does. When he succeeded in making her leave the room, he ordered the door closed and locked, so that he can talk the remaining people into his mutiny.
I don’t think Gaeta was angry and lashing out at Starbuck, or behaving in any way irrationally. I think he had already made up his mind that he would lead a mutiny when there is a chance, and he coldly calculated Starbuck most not hear what he’s about to say, because Starbuck could not be talked into anything, least of all a rebellion against Adama.
Pretty much my take too, but I think he was hoping to get her to haul off on him, since he knew he had a lot of supporters there.
