Chuck asked during the 2011 GWC Meetup Live Podcast who was our favorite guest in the past year. Most people at the meetup said it was Dr. Ron Mallett, but in looking through the past years’ guests it is impressive indeed. So vote for your favorite guest(s). Vote for as many as you want! If there was a guest or a segment not listed above, feel free to vote “Other” and post your choice in this thread.
Gotta go with Mallett. He’s got such an interesting story.
I voted for Dr. Mallet and Solai. I really enjoyed the segment on Hagrid’s Hut despite not being a huge Harry Potter fan.
It’s hard because there’s so many great ones on that list.
But Audra rolling up her first D&D character with her friend Abigail and the surrounding discussion about table top paper and dice gaming—that was personally special to me.
In this age of computer/video gaming, I feel like that kind of face to face gaming is a dying activity, so I fear that many never get to experience the joy of it like I have.
Also, when Abby mentioned my fav RPG Deadlands I almost leap up in the air.
Great stuff.
I thought Richard Hatch was memorable because he seemed quaintly disassociated from reality when it came to discussing the motivation for Zarek’s character.

Craaaap…I thought I also clicking on Cast 252: Shooter, 2010 End-Of-Year (2 Jan 2011) too! Apparently not. I haz a dumb.
It’s less that, than the need for every actor to understand and portray his character in the best possible light. Nobody (well, very few people) think of themselves as a villain, so you have to figure out why and how he’s really the good guy.
Yeah, but in his case it was approaching method acting…
Don’t get me wrong I thought it was great. I just hope he didn’t have any big meeting during the filming of the last season.

Oh, I’m sure it was method acting. Hatch probably bombed a few buildings just to get in character.
This was a tough choice since all of the GWC guests are awesome! In fact I felt guilty not picking them all, but in the spirit of giving feedback I did narrow it down to the upper half. Chosing all the GWCers was not just being a “homer.” I very much enjoy every time Juan is a guest host and his movies last summer were fun to talk about. Ferris’s knowledge of John Hughes information and the presentation both on the podcast and in his blog article were fascinating to me. And for those of you that have met Ferris in person, the dude is a total riot! (Note to Ferris: Come to the GWC 2012 Meetup!!!). Solai’s Hagrid’s Hut segment was pretty moving. Solai’s segment, along with Ferris’s segment, actually had me sitting in my parked car at work finishing it up before getting out of the car for 20 minutes each. Listening to The Operator’s walk through of the Tron Store was hillarious! Operator: you were also sorely missed at this years’ meetup and I hope to either see you at the 2012 meetup or catch up with you before then if I’m lucky enough to spend some time on the West Coast. As for me, it was simply amazing to be a part of the end of 2010 podcast and Chuck’s 40th birthday, so it definitely was one of my favorites even if it was hard to get a word in edgewise with the crew and Techdrew.
Of the other segments, Eddie McClintock seems like a guy you’d want to hang out with at the GWC Meetup. A geek in his own right it was great to hear him talk about Warehouse 13. And being a rocket scientist it was hard not to enjoy Dr. Ron Mallett’s segment. A great combination of geek and physicist on a VERY interesting topic. Kudos for the GWC crew and Solai for lining that one up!
Like I said, all the guest were interesting in their own areas. I look forward to the guests this next year brings before the 2012 meetup and know the the GWC crew will continue amazing me in interesting topics and entertainment value. Thanks for the 264 podcasts and here’s to the many more to come!

There are just too many good choices. But I have to say I had to go with Solai/Hagrid’s Hut and Abigail Manuel/Dungeons & Dragons. Abigail was fun to listen to walk Audra through a session of D&D and Solai just had such an uplifting story with his experiences running Hagrid’s Hut it was alot of fun to listen to.
All of the guests are great and I can’t wait to see what’s coming in the next year
