As a mere novice poster on this forum please extend some patience if this question has already been discussed and answered at length, but to sustain myself in the absense of BSG I decided to re-watch the complete series again from the beginning.
At the end of “33” Adama finds a note in his quarters saying that there are only 12 Cylon models. Now whether its may age or just a mental block I can’t work out who left this for him.
Any thoughts or guidance on this ? or am I just being a duffus
Dradis, we never knew or found out who left that message for him. It is one of the mysteries left for us to talk about, et nausium, forever.
Some people think that Cavil did it so that the F.F. would be found.
Some think it was Baltar…?
What do you think?
Well I’m glad i’m not having some mental breakdown and forgot something important. After seeing the finale and all the different times when things happened to get them to the end I guess I’ll have to go with the head characters leaving the message.
Could be a little left field but I got the sense that the head characters are the ones who manipulated the continuance of the cycle until such time that humanity learns the lesson and breaks the cycle itself.
According to Ron Moore (I forget the source: interview? Podcast?) it was Baltar. (I’d always assumed it was Baltar as he was the only one, at that point in the series, who know about the 12 cylon models.)
Thanks Armando. Did I miss something but how did Baltar know there were 12 models at the end of “33”
Actually, I’m pretty sure that note was at the end of the mini-series. I’d have to re-listen to the commentary for the mini it might have been in there where RDM discusses it. I know for sure it was in an early episode podcast he did. It was mentioned more as a behind the scenes thing, he was oriiginally intending for it to be revealed that it was Baltar that left the note but story wise they decided to leave it open & unanswered. It’s kind of similar to their original intention that the person Caprica 6 says “I was wondering when you’d get here.” to in the courtyard on Caprica was going to be Roslin. Obviously that entire storyline was dropped for Roslin, her character took an entirely different direction.
So the answer to your question is, we officially do not know.
As to your question of how Baltar knew there were 12 models, Caprica 6 tells him in the mini-series that there are 12 models & she is #6 during her reveal of the plans to nuke the colonies & he finds out his duplicity in bringing about armageddon.
I think it is in the commentary on the mini series. The part when head six says “you’re not on there side…” to Baltar in the corridor of the Galactica is supposed to be them leaving Adama’s quarters.
Yes, I listened to that RDM podcast eons ago. I double-confirm that RDM said that it was Baltar. It was Caprica Six who told him.
Thanks to the collective hive mind. No doubt further questions will surface during the re-watch.
My question is - if it was from Baltar - did Adama know that it was from Baltar? And if he didn’t know who it was from - why would he not question it? If he did know - why wouldn’t he question how Baltar came to have this knowledge?
… And that’s how RDM unravels a story…
I doubt Adama knew it was from Baltar.
Why would he not question it? He already had seen what the cylons were doing with the hybrid, And he had his run in with Leoben. So I don’t find it that hard to have him say “I don’t know if this is true but untill proven otherwise I’m going to keep this in mind”
Make sense?
Okay, sure, but - wouldn’t he want to know who on his ship has direct knowledge of how many skinjobs there are? That means that someone has had contact with at least one enemy agent. I’m not saying there was any way to find out who left it - but you’d think he would at least wonder about it…He just picked up the note and was like “eh okay there are 12 models” No reaction at all. The way the scene was shot it made me think that I had missed something. It just always struck me as odd.
I remember RDM saying it’s Baltar. I think it was at a con.
Miss Muffet, I agree the reaction in the scene is odd. Adama still does not know who left that note. I’m kind of disappointed they did not follow up on that thread. Story wise it can be explained away that Adama may have conculded that it was one of the hidden cylon’s who left the note to throw confusion into the command staff. He may have kept that in mind in the subsequent persuit of hidden cylons in the fleet, we just never saw him reference it.
Now that I think about it can anyone remember the human leadership actually being TOLD there are only 12 models?
I actually can’t. I think it’s one of those things that just happenned that we never saw on screen.
I’m putting the mystery of the note writer in the same box as the glowing spines and what was Starbuck?
It’s conceivable that Baltar dropped the note on Adama’s desk as a first step of trying to atone for his complicity in allowing Caprica Six access to the Colonial Defense Mainframe.
Although as we all know, his eventual demeanor has much to be desired over the next five years.
To be honest, I’m more curious about whether or not he knew Ellen was a cylon when he ran his Cylon Detector blood test on her back in Season One. Too bad we never got an answer.
I always thought it was Baltar, because if we recall the scene from the Miniseries when Six reveals Baltar’s role in the destruction of the colonies, she says there are twelve models of cylon, and she’s number six. At least when we see Adama receive the note, the only person that we the viewer have seen who isn’t a cylon that has that information is Baltar.
I was thinking that perhaps Adama wasn’t too keen on finding who left the note because so much time and effort was spent staying on the run and ferreting out the sleeper cylon models in the RTF. But I also agree with everyone who has said that at this point it’s just speculation.
I believe it was on New Caprica that they figured out who all the Cylon models were. I believe Baltar or Roslyn at some point say they only saw 7 Cylon models, but knew there were 12. Same thing with D’Anna, we never saw the Colonials reaction to finding out she was a Cylon.
It’s kind of similar to their original intention that the person Caprica 6 says “I was wondering when you’d get here.” to in the courtyard on Caprica was going to be Roslin. Obviously that entire storyline was dropped for Roslin, her character took an entirely different direction.
Whaaaaaaaaaa?!?!
I feel like a bad BSG nerd for not knowing that. What could Six have been doing with Roslin? Trying to get close to Adar? Anyone know any more about that dropped story?
