When Ellen is speaking with Cavil on his ship, she says she named him after her father. Who is her father? I’m a bit foggy on the final fivers, but don’t they not have parents? I supposed they had creators; is this what she meant?
I believe that the “Erf” Cylons were able to biologically reproduce. That’s why they gave up resurrection technology, because it was redundant. The Final Five reinvented the technology for themselves and were thus able to survive the holocaust when everyone else died. So Ellen probably had a real dad, even though he too was probably a Cylon.
And welcome to the boards, lorijds. Step right in, the goo is warm (just don’t ask why.)
At least it supposedly makes us look better, right?
Yeah, Ellen is the result of that whole “sometimes, when mommises and daddies love each other very much” thing. She apparently unlocked reztech shortly before Erfageddon, alongside the coincidentally still alive Saul, Sam, Tory, and Galen.
I still want to know what caused Erffageddon! Why were the 13th tribe warring with each other? Were they fighting about something relevant to our current story.
Also, how was the trip to the colonies done? Grow old and resurrect, rinse repeat? That’s a hell of a story since it took 2000 years for them to get to the colonies. (Was it 2,000 or 3,000).
P.S. I’m watching old West Wing episodes (my annual Marathon) and EJO is awesome as Judge Mendoza.
P.P.S. I love BSG, but West Wing was the greatest show ever put on TV.
It’s just that the story or cycle keeps repeating. It seems to be the natural course of events that when you create artificial intelligence it eventually rebels against you.
You know how the closer you travel to the speed of light the slower time moves for you? (Einstein, relativity, blah blah, etc) They didn’t have FTL but they had fast-as-hell ships that approached the speed of light. So maybe the trip took 10 years for them, but to the rest of the universe 2,000 years passed.
I think there are some discrepancies in the timelines used in the show, so not sure if they left 2,000 years ago or 3,000.
I think Tigh and Ellen’s reproduction problem was just like human couples who have problems getting pregnant. It’s only the S7 (S8?) who find it impossible amongst themselves. Someone’s suggested that this is a deliberate flaw introduced by the FF in the S7 so they would have to get friendly with the humans. Not yet sure about it, but I think it’s interesting.
I’m not there yet. Tigh loved Ellen and she loved him, both in their own drunken, dysfunctional ways. And speaking of dysfunctional, Caprica Six is every bit as crazy as Ellen, which explains why it’s so easy for Tigh to fall for her…assuming he truly has. I don’t think it’s really been shown that he’s not still just rebounding.
I think you have nothing to fear. They don’t have a child because they don’t have a child. Can you imagine the plot twists if they did and he/she lived or the side story if he/she died in the attacks?
Tigh and Ellen have real love. The kind that is sometimes found in the real world and seldom on glowing phosphors.
Sure, in recent times (and possibly in the distant past as well, given the hints we have received) their relationship has at times been … turbulent. But don’t forget what Ellen did for Tigh on New Caprica. When she did not know she was a Cylon. When she ‘swirled’ for her love. And don’t forget what Tigh did on New Caprica, what he had to do, and the consequences for him. And the awesome irony of course, when both are ultimately revealed to be Cylons.
No. The Tighs have a love deep as a millennium, spanning the light years. And if Saul is hooked up at present with Caprica Six, this in no way changes the reality and depth of his and Ellen’s connection.
And as for ‘love being the answer’ to Cylon conception and successful childbirth, I have previously discussed this at some length. My several points, however, can be summarised in one succinct word: bollocks.
