Who-Fans?

So I recently saw David Tennant on a talk show and found the actor rather entertaining so while channel surfing later and came across Doctor Who I decided to watch an episode. It was rather entertaining so I then NetFlix’ed the Season 1 and it was GREAT! Seasons 2 and 3 down now, and getting caught up on Season 4 right now.

And have to say, Doctor Who ranks right up there with Firefly, great sci-fi, great stories (a few even gave me goosebumps…‘Are you my mommy?’), and some of the funniest stuff I’ve seen since Firefly!

But I’m somewhat surprised there doesn’t seem to be more Who-fans in GWC, have most not seen this series, or do I just find it more entertaining than most others?

There’s been a decent amount of mentions of the new Doctor Who in the GWC Forum—although not any real formal rewatch thread folders.
I really enjoyed Season 1 and Season 2 of Doctor Who. But for whatever reason, I didn’t watch Season 3 (too many other things I was watching). But I got Disk 1 Season 3 from Netflix, and it’s the next thing I’m gonna watch after finish the last two episodes of Heroes Season 1.
So much to watch, so little time! :frowning:

I love The Who, I listen to them regulary… erm wrong thread prehaps.

It is a known fact that Pete Townsend is a Time Lord.

I’m a new Doctor Who fan…meaning of the new series and also just recently started watching. I’ve never watched any of the “old” Who, though I’d like to. Anyway, I love Doctor Who too and I’d love to see a specific folder added for it if there is enough interest.

I just finished season 3 and can finally start watching season 4 from my DVR. My 7 yr old son loves it too.

There are some great “goosebumps” episodes toward the end of the third season, and the “Are you my mummy?” line popped up humorously in one of the recent fourth season episodes.

I’ve been a big Doctor Who fan for as long as I can remember. Spending the day inside watching the serials on PBS filled many of my Saturday afternoons when I was a kid and helped me become the socially awkward and translucently pale-skinned man I am today.

I think they’re on first.

I got hooked on to the old show by my mum, RTD has created some great jokes. I think the “Are you my mummy?” joke comes back in the 4th season.

Tom Baker and Douglas Adams had some mad jokes as well- see the Pirate Planet to see what I mean.

I’m a huge Who fan. Definetly thread worthy.

Did Douglas Adams write that episode? I gotta go back and watch that one.
And by the way, for the original Dr. Who series, Tom Baker was the best hands down.

I have been a Doctor Who fan since I first started watching Tom Baker Saturday mornings on PBS. I followed through each doctor from that time on till McCoy – though it was a bit hit and miss.

Tom Baker was MY doctor. I had a crush on Peter Davison. Hated Colin Baker. Liked Sylvester Mcoy’s fatherly persona. When the new Doctor Who started I felt the same way as I did with the “re imagined” BSG – I wasn’t going to give it a chance to ruin all of my lovely memories. I was wrong about BSG and wrong about New Who – they’re both fantastic – though very, very different. Who is a little lighter, campier and a lot more family friendly.

I get the sense that there are quite a few Who fans here – I have heard Emilyfromohio on the DWO podcast – but this is a BSG site so not much opportunity to wax poetic about Who.

Dr. Who?

It’s an OLD joke – but I still find it funny! You win a gold star.

I love me some dr. who.

I’m really excited to see Muffet take voer as show runner. But does it mean Tennant and donna need to leave?

I do what I can.

I believe that I read that David’s contract will continue. I have no idea about Catherine Tate, however. I’m pretty attached to David Tennant now, though it took me half a season to get over losing Christopher Eccleston. If the Doctor regenerates again, I suppose I’ll get used to it. I still love Rose and miss her character and her relationship with the Doctor.

You just can’t resist the spoilers, can you?

Actually, as much I like Catherine Tate, I was hoping that Carey Mulligan (Sally Sparrow from “Blink”) would return as a companion. I really took an instant liking to her.

When Tom Baker left, I had never even heard of regeneration. And back then, the lead character of a show was never in any danger of real death, so it was a huge shock when the Doctor (the only Doctor I had ever known) died and turned into Peter Davison.

I still love Rose and miss her character and her relationship with the Doctor.

They have a plan.

Guess I’m more a David Tennant as Dr. Who fan than a Dr. Who fan.

Yes, I can. Why? What do you know?

Yeah, I did too. She was in Bleak House and I recognized her from that. I never considered her as a companion. THAT would be interesting.

Yeah, you know me…I just watched the 2nd half of the season trailer. I love love love that
Rose will be on again…but it’s almost painful because I feel like they’re just going to take her away again.
I had caught the very tail end of “Partners in Crime” (S4E1) before actually watching them all from new-Who on and nothing made much sense. When the Doctor picks up Donna.
But I just finished watching that episode proper and the very end when she tells the pedestrian “that bin”, and then Rose turns around! OMG! Too cool, and so sad! But according to the Wikipedia entry
Billie Piper briefly reprised her role as Rose Tyler in the Series 4 episode Partners in Crime and will return to the series from “Turn Left” to “Journey’s End”
(The final 2 episodes of Season 4)
RTD will continue through this year’s Christmas special and the 4 specials planned for next year. (They are not doing a full season for 2009) Then Moffat will take over. Tennant, at least, is confirmed through 2010. Catherine Tate is only confirmed for this season. They are keeping very hush-hush about the Christmas special which is currently filming. No clue who the “companion” is for that.

I, too, had a hard time getting over losing #9. He was my first, and will always be my favorite, doctor. I do love Tennant, though.

I miss Rose, too. I liked Martha, but I never really got attatched to her, and Donna is still growing on me.
