When are unread posts cleared out?

This is probably a “feature” of the forum but it forgets posts and threads that I haven’t read. Either that or it’s assuming I read every unread thread every time I come to the site.

I frequently only get 10-15 minutes to jump in and have a look and I notice a bunch of different threads that I haven’t read. Without reading them I go off and do something else. When I come back and refresh the page all of those threads become marked as read. Is there some way to make it not do that.

I’d happily have hundreds of unread threads rather than try to remember when I last refreshed the page and work off of the recently changed list.

If you are logging out when you leave then that is when it happens cause it clears cookies on log out.

If you aren’t logging out, then I’m not sure what the actual settings are. Here’s more info from the FAQ:

There are two ways to quickly view recently created or updated threads.

If you are not logged in, the ‘today’s posts’ link will show a list of all threads that have been created or updated in the last 24 hours.

If you are logged in, the ‘Today’s Posts’ link will change to ‘New Posts’, which gives you a listing of all threads that have been created or updated since your last visit.

The administrator can also set up the forums so that each thread you read is marked in the database. If this option is set, then new threads (or threads with new posts) will not be marked as read until you have actually read them.

There is a built-in time limit to this, however, that will automatically mark all threads as ‘read’ after a set number of day, whether you really have read them or not. The default setting is 10 days, but the administrator could make this higher or lower.

This glitches sometimes. I’ve had them all marked read after a number of hours.

Agreed. Actually, mine usually has them all marked read after about an hour, if I don’t do anything.
