what's different with Chuck season 3

At the end of season 2 we get the new intersect 2.0 which allows chuck to have some super spy skills in times of emergencies. this was basically a format changer. The plot devices have changed and many wondered if that will result in a change in the feel of the show. Many say it didn’t, but i recently rewatched 1x03 Chuck v.s. the Tango, and I have come to the conclusion that the feels of the show has changed as well.

I was writing a long winded thing about the comparison of Chuck v.s. Tango and season 3 episodes, but i realized what i really want to say is Chuck needs more interaction with Elle, Awesome and people at the Buymore.

I think the core difference in season 3 is missing those basic elements that makes Chuck stay grounded. And season 3 is missing these. Chuck used to try to do his job at Buymore, or try helping out friends and families. With a Chuck so into Spy life that those things gets put into second priority is not what’s makes Chuck special.

It’s cool to have the new intersect and have Chuck not sit in the back seat, but those are not the core of Chuck. The feel of the show is connected to Chuck trying to balance spy and life. And trying to stay grounded and in connection with Elle/Awesome and Morgan. Missing those elements, doesn’t feel like Chuck.

I see your point about the lack of balance in season 3. I’ve noticed it as well. There were some massive budget cuts to this season which means that they can’t afford to have all the actors on at the same time, at least in these early episodes. If you read Alan Sepinwall’s blog, he has an interview with the producers Schwartz and Fedak and they talk a little about what’s happened. I am hoping this means they will be getting back on track as we go forward.

Part of the reason why we’re rationing the way we are in certain episodes like last night is so that we can have everybody down the line. We’ve had budget cuts. Hopefully you haven’t really seen it on screen in terms of the production values of the show, but it does affect the number of actors we can use in the number of episodes, and we want to bring in new actors as well, and all that is coming from the same honeypot.
