what was shepard?

how rapidly is the birthday approaching? Shepherd’s Tale isn’t supposed to come out till the end of the year or so.

Good to know. It’s quite rapid at this point. Maybe I’ll get a Craaaaap! shirt from the GWC store and a gift certificate for the Shepherd’s Tale. Any geek boy suggestions? So far all i have is a Jamba Juice gift card.

Well how old is the person you’re getting the gifts for?

There’s always the Serenity: Those Left Behind paperback, if you were going for Firefly comics anyway.

Apart from that, hm… my eight-year-old little brother is totally into LEGO Star Wars sets, there’s a huge variety and they come in all sizes and price classes. Only problem is once you get someone started one of those, even a tiny little landspeeder set, they want more. But it’s quality stuff, I never in my life have opened a LEGO kit where even one piece was missing or something did not come out the way it should.
While we’re talking about LEGO, they just brought an Indiana Jones collection this month or last month, it’s awesome. I already bought the Indy keyring mini figure.

Oh. I just figured it out. SO means significant other. Ah, well, maybe no LEGO then. Even though LEGO is totally cool for all age groups.

If I currently had an SO and she gave me a Jamba Juice card I would be sooooooo happy. Jamba Juice is delicious!

LEGO is totally cool. Having an SO who is best compared to your 8 y/o brother is… not. :stuck_out_tongue:

Since we’re up to our ankles in what I’m told are “graphic novels,” I think the promise of an upcoming comic will work nicely.

GR, I also like the idea of the Indy keyring mini figure, but I’m thinking Chewbacca is the one for this year. The R2-D2 keyring is almost $50US!!! :open_mouth: It’s true the difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys.

And thanks Starbuccaneer for the vote of confidence on the Jamba Juice card. I’m feeling better about the upcoming birthday.

Are we talking about the same thing?

take a look here

Is the Reverend Sean eligible to be called “Book”?

“Shepherd Sean” ?

My totally fashionable, non-geeky coworker just bought her husband the Rock Band drum kit and some computer cables for his b-day. She came to me for nerd advice.

So I just rewatched “Safe” (the episode where the good Shepherd gets shot near the cattle) and I’m still quite puzzled.

He’s not evil, so he can’t be blue hand man. Operative? But then why would they let him become a man of the cloth?

Again this is total speculation and I’m not familiar with the Firefly fandom (beyond my sister), but perhaps there was some sort of military/special op thing that also relates to a position within a religious group? That hasn’t been unknown in history.

Or maybe he’s like Cadfael, and he was out in the world and then repented and took vows. If that’s the case, then he could have been anything…

that makes sense to me as well. imagine what the operative from Serenity will do post-Tam incident. disillusioned, remorseful, perhaps needing to hide from other operatives of the parliament, might he, oh, I don’t know, join a monastery???

That’s a very interesting take that’s completely consistent with what we’ve seen.

Yeah… that Alliance is pretty shifty and non-ethical. I wouldn’t put it past them. Now, I wonder how their Quorum equivalent operates…

Either WAY more efficiently, or about the same. Hard to tell.

I still believe that there is something special in Book’s lineage. He knows so much but is also cultured, which suggests wealth. I love the idea that he rejected a life in the family business- high-up Alliance mucky-mucks. The knowledge he has from his past protects him in the future.

I bet Shepherd would give something for this lunchbox:

Serenity’s on cable this month… When they finally hook up with Shepard, the way he says something about her being a high-level operative (or something like that) made me think he was well-versed on that kind of thing.

I’ve never seen anything but the show and movie – no comics – so based on what I’ve seen, I’m guessing operative. Or former operative.

But that didn’t save him, did it?

His knowledge didn’t save him in the end, but his death was the catalyst for Mal to finally believe in something and I think Book would be pleased.

I agree. I was sad to see him go, but his death served a greater good. I personally believe that Shepherd Book was spec-ops with the Alliance, regretted his decision after the war and joined the church. Hell, he probably went up against Mal’s outfit at one time.
