What to do with old Audio CDs

I recently have undertaken a project to confirm that all of my audio CDs are burned into iTunes.

As I look at the stack of CDs I am wondering…do I keep these forever? Do I pitch them? Can I donate them to a library? Is there value to keeping them?

Assuming I keep a good backup of everything on my computer, both onsite and offsite…is there any reason to keep them? And if not, where should they go?

I imagine many of you have tackled this. Your thots are most appreciated.

Solar. Oven.

Make armor out of them.

Keep them for future generations. They’ll be like 8-track tapes when we’re using isolinear chips.

I vote this reply as ‘Best post in the thread’

My cds are just sort of hanging out right now, taking up space. Sometimes I notice them and cant help but ask myself ‘why did I ever buy this terrible bands cd?’ Unfortunately I am loathe to throw things away unless they are broken. For some reason I always think to myself that it will come in handy. Does anyone think Will Smith’s ‘Big Willie Style’ serves any sort of purpose? Anyway, curious to hear if anyone has ideas not related to arts n crafts :stuck_out_tongue:

Personally, I pack 'em up small and store 'em as the ultimate backup.

OMG I laughed like hell when watching that “Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This?” video. That kid reminds me of those Reno 911 PSA clips. His comments are funny yet so very dumb which just makes me laugh more.

Plus that tinfoil baracade wall looks terrifying. One large arc off of that microwave striking the wall and his nuts will get roasted. Nobody likes roasted nuts. That can’t possibly be protection of any kind which just makes me laugh more.

Anyways, as for spare CDs, I guess just store them somewhere as backups should something happen to your PC.

Meh, I’ve got all mine in a few boxes in storage. Just in case.

the ones i do have are in storage. they’re not worth enough to sell, and their value as hard copy backups of many of my most important albums is greater.

also, my truck doesn’t take AUX cables, so I can’t put my iPod in, and a dude tires of NPR from time to time.

I know what you mean. Fortunately, my car has a cassette tape player, so I can use one of those adapters to play my iPod in the car.
