Thanks Solai!
Reading the part where…
They arrive in the prison
Rick just said, “I’m telling you, it’s totally safe.”
Turns out – duh – he was very wrong.
If you’re thinking about checking out the comics, just get the Compendium if you can afford it (around $37 USD). You’re not going to want to be left hanging from one book to the next.
Also, it turns out…
the walkers are zombies.
Man o man o man o man. Walking Dead comic is intense. I’ve reached the point where I don’t want to put it down, but I don’t want to read more, cuz I don’t want it to be over. They’re in Woodbury now.
eeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuugggh. The Governor is a sick f*k. But a fascinating one.
Oh, Torres as Michonne would be too perfect. Except I’d hate to see Torres walk a mile in Michonne’s shoes.
Man man man man man
Things only get worse in the comic. Always.
Which is bad for the characters, but it’s gripping reading.
I love how…
Rick and the crew are not portrayed as the good guys. Not that there are any good guys left. So far, at least. Anyhow, even the prisoners thought the group was batshit-crazy.
Right now, I’m up to after Woodbury and the scene outside Walmart.
Finished Compendium #1 on Xmas day*. Didn’t mean to, but no way could I put it down after the end of Book 7. My response to pretty much everything consists of [head explodes].
- Which ends…
with the end of the prison seige.
ps. The Governor, what a character. Sooo twisted.
At least I got a Christmas story. Nifty timing.
I just demolished books 5 and 6 yesterday, which is my first time reading the comics after watching the first season of the tv show, and I have to say my experience of it is vastly different than watching the tv show. Which isn’t to say one’s better than the other, but one thing I’ve noticed is how fast the comic develops its new characters and make you like and/or care for them in a very short amount of time. I’m hoping the tv show would do a little more of that.
But yeah
I had to reread the first 12 pages because I couldn’t believe it actually happened. I was flummoxed.
And I just love how they’re developing the relationship between Carl and Rick, and their own individual growths into moral ambiguity - both doing ‘what needs to be done because no one else would do it’. But I still kind of see them as good guys even though the definition of ‘good’ is much skewed. (he did give those cannibals a choice, even though the excessive torture was perhaps overkill) Which can only mean they’ll end up destroying that nice community (Just a guess, so maybe I’m completely wrong. But it doesn’t seem right if the mayor dude is the same as crazy Woodbury dude, so I can see Rick self destructing at the community - gets suspicious one time too many, and maybe they get kicked out as a result? Which goes back to your New Caprica comparison, a little).
I’m also really sad that Dale’s gone. I love that guy to bits, so at least I enjoyed his manic laughter when he reveals he’s tainted meat.
I’m reading volume 1 of the compendium loving it to bits, just one small complaint…
there’s no fricking page numbers, oh well ,guess it means I’ll have to read an entire book each time, still 48 issues, over 1,000 pages and frickin heavy too.
I like how they
had Rick’s kid kill sean, they didn[t kill him yet in the tv show so I’m interested in how they’ll handle that one
.
They’ve just gotten to the farm where I am
