Okay so I’ve just switched back from mac, to windows and there’s this one crazy thing. its like an auto click if leave the cursor over a link or icon to long it just activates the damn thing; all by itself. i checked the pointer, preferences and i can’t find a way to turn it off. any help would be grand.
I think that’s a touchpad setting. I’ve come across it before, but, thankfully, only briefly.
When you say it “activates” an icon, do you mean it actually launches it or simply selects it?
There are three possible explanations. If it’s a Vista issue, you should make sure that…
a) your computer is set to require a double-click to open things (you can change this by opening the control panel and then “folder options,” make sure you looking at the “classic view” control panel for this), and…
b) your computer is set to NOT activate windows by hovering over them (again, open the control panel in “classic view” mode and open "ease of access center).
If neither of those solve the problem, then it’s actually not a Vista issue and instead is a setting of the specific touchpad or mouse that you use. If that’s the case, post again with some more details like the type of touchpad or mouse you use an we can try to troubleshoot this some more.
