Verizon DSL

I have DSL through Verizon. In the last few weeks it has started to cut out for no reason for a minute or two, and then come back. It does this about once an hour. I have made no changes to my system, so I am assuming it is on their end.

I live north of Boston. Has anyone else had this issue?

I have a Westal A90 DSL modem, and LinkSys router and my machine is Mac OS X, but I really doubt that is the issue.

When it cuts out, the DSL modem’s Ready light blinks slowly.

How old is the modem?

I’ve had this exact problem (I’m in Boston also) with two or three separate Verizon DSL modems. I’d get a new one after complaining, then after 6 months the modem would start acting up again. It was a real pain for online gaming.

I think it’s just the modems going bad after 6 months as my line was fine according to the Verizon CSRs. But, Verizon is hesitant giving out new modems as it costs them money.

This won’t solve your immediate problem, but the connection was so bad that I switched to Comcast internet and never looked back. It’s more expensive, but the reliable, continuous service is well worth it imo. My current cable modem is 2 years old and still going strong.

They are sending me a new modem, so we will see.

Good. I hope I’m wrong and it lasts longer than 6 months for you.
