November 5th, at 10 PM ET.
Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot to surrender,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Remember, remember the ides of March '06,
The lackluster acting and plot to disregard,
I know of no reason
Why this over-hyped movie
Should ever be bought.
Can you tell I didn’t buy into the hype for this movie?
I might watch it again though, maybe it was the overpriced ticket and lack of Dr. Pepper at the theater that swayed my judgement.
November 5th you say? Maybe I can find it at the cheapo movie place. (ok, so I thought of a reason and negated my poem)
Remember, remember, as a DVD renter,
That Netflix did act as my movie sender.
I know of no reason
Why we shouldn’t sees 'em,
When it come in the mail and needn’t be bought.
I liked the movie, own it even. (And I just love Hugo Weaving and Stephen Fry)
Putting it in my scheduler. I’m on dayshift for the next month, so I should be around.
Yeah, I canceled Netflix a while back though, never had enough time to watch any of the stuff on my list.
Well, it’s not a school night, so there’s a chance I’ll be there. I did like the comic better than the movie, though…
Me neither, although that’s never really stopped me.
Oh yeah! That’s right! Your whole country is taking off for my birthday.
This movie was great I need to watch it again.
I will try to remember the 5th of November
Edit : I already jumped in the subject before rewatch so I removed it and will come back with it after the 5th.
I was just remembering the 5th of November – the gunpowder, treason, the plot.
I loved the comic.
Totally wasn’t feeling the movie.
And the credits music? Ugh?
For what it’s worth, I’m one of the marked minority who thinks Watchmen looks a little creaky, too. It looks kinda top-40/mainstream alternative when it oughtta be… I dunno, something else. Actors look like a buncha soap-opera actors who’ve been doing pilates, not battle-hardened athletes.
But that’s a tangent. I don’t think V For Vendetta was all flash & substance. Just didn’t dig it. V’s mask didn’t work in the movies, for me at least. And, as Moore noted, it makes some political statements but fails to mention “fascism” once. Which kinda eviscerates the whole point.
But, that said, I feel like I should watch it again.
I’ll grant the movie took some great liberties with the script, although it’s hard to consider that most Americans would embrace an anarchist terrorist as a valid movie “hero”. Movies have to make money, or they don’t get made…

Really? I don’t recall it being too bad, but it’s been a while.

Unfortunately, the number of battle-hardened athletes who can act is somewhat limited.

I don’t know. The word “fascism” gets tossed around so frequently with so few people even really knowing what it means that the whole point would be lost on the general public. The sad fact is that making these sorts of story-dense comics into big blockbuster movies tends to come with a lot of compromises to grab a wide audience.
But, that said, I feel like I should watch it again.
So we’ll see you here?
I’ll try to be there. I have some real things to say about VfV- I both loved and loathed it. It’ll be interesting to discuss with yall.
That said, anyone who needs a reason to watch it even if they didn’t love it: Natalie Portman. She’s a great actress and she is beautiful. And few women look that hot with the fuzzball look.
If they could do all that CGI stuff with a big, blue Dr. Manhattan, they could have filmed all the roles using Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus from Rome, then morphed 'em or whatever. Except Silk Spectre. Her they can keep.
I’ll probably weigh in. It’s like the kids can sense when I want to do something extra with my day, and they go out of their way to wear me down… or decide they don’t want to go to sleep.
Or, depending how the election turns out – and assuming the whole count is resolved by the 5th – I may not be in the mood for anything political.
V for V: In which V’s army defends the earth from human-eating reptile aliens…
Let them watch with you. It’s a great lesson in the positive uses of terrorism.
V for V: In which V’s army defends the earth from human-eating reptile aliens…
An excellent idea.
So am I the only one getting ready to watch V for Vendetta? Do I have to frak all by meself?
IYKWIM
Imma queued and ready. Who out there?
I’m watching it right now. It seems to have been forgotten. I’m at 30 minutes right now.
EDIT: Woah. Okay, I could start over.
You are not alone.
Nope. Me here also.
I believe, by definition, he is.
