Unknown Greats Arc

I propose an arc for “Unknown Great Movies” … these are movies if you were to ask five people, “Do you know this movie?” only one would respond yes.

Here is my first nomination

Hudsucker Proxy
This is one of the all-time great movies that nobody knows about. It was written and directed by the Coen brothers (No Country for Old Men, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Millers Crossing), it stars Tim Robbins, Paul Newman and is a beautiful, innocent, funny, ironic, satiric and biting commentary.

Is that the movie where Robinson’s character is a complete idiot and ends up becoming some kind of stock market big wig in the 30s or 40s?

That’s the one. “You know, for kids”

Miller’s Crossing. One of my all time favorite movies of all time (<----I went back to edit the redundancy in this sentence and decided to leave it as is). Every moment from the clink of the ice in the glass in the first scene, to Gabriel Byrne leaning against the tree in the final scene. The music, the dialog, the visuals, the punctuated violence—an awesome movie.

Good one…perhaps we simply make this a Coen brother arc and be done with it?

O Brother Where Art Thou?
The Big Lebowski
Raising Arizona
Miller’s Crossing
Hudsucker Crossing

I still haven’t seen The Big Lebowski.

Add:

No Country for Old Men
Fargo

I was just talking about Hudsucker Proxy with my boss and her son, Has anyone see Eagle vs Shark is with Jemaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords band and show its very indie i don’t if anyone else has.

Good idea. But I must hang my head in shame. Of that list, I’ve only seen Miller’s Crossing.:o:o

Wonder if the “Time Bandits”, “Brazil”, “Adventures of Baron Munchausen” trilogy would work under this category.

I saw Miller’s Crossing i thought it was good its been a while since i seen it, gotta put it in my queue.

don’t forget that the great Bruce Campbell of Evil Dead fame also appears in the movie. that man has more charisma in his chin than most people have in their whole bodies.

i <3 Brazil extra muchly. I’m not as much of a fan of Time Bandits, but it’s fun. i think Terry Gilliam would be a wonderful theme for an arc, especially considering the weird sci-fi bent that Brazil and Time Bandits have.

I don’t have any obscure movies to add (at least none in English and I don’t know how people feel about subtitles around here), but I think this is a great idea.

I say that all the time and no one gets it.

Another Gilliam movie that I enjoy is 12 monkeys. Crazy Brad Pitt is a riot.

Yeah. He’s brilliant in this. It’s a tough trick to pull off.

Since Chuck’s never seen it, how 'bout Godfather?

Not really sci fi. At all. But hey… We have a lot of time to kill.

Could be a mob, gansta arc: Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino, Miller’s Crossing, Once Upon a Time in New York, Analyze This …what am I missing?

the Sopranos (maybe select episodes?), the Godfather part II, the Boondock Saints, Pulp Fiction, Snatch, the Departed, um…West Side Story?

I think Donnie Darko would be a great film to add to the list of unknown greats. The Big Lebowski should also be on the list, unless it’s included in some other arc. Dark City is another good one. This is a rather recent example, but Children of Men is a great film and was ignored by the mainstream viewers, and did poorly in theaters.
