Universal Remotes

So, I am finally sick and tired at staring at the three or four remotes that sit in the family room. I want to have one. So I have begun to look around and the options run from stupidly cheap to ridiculously expensive.

Anyone have any experience in the world of Universal remotes and can make a recommendation? It looks like the main player is Logitech with remotes running from $60 bucks to $500 bucks.

I have a Logitech Harmony 720 and I’ve had it for 3 or 4 years. I love it. The only thing I can’t control with it is the VCR and that’s 'cause I don’t want to dismantle the entertainment center to get to the back of the VCR to see what the exact model number is.

The remote software for the computer is fairly easy to use and you can customize the buttons on the screen of your remote. The only thing that I can never get to work is the “Activities” stuff. My TV just doesn’t like to be turned on my a macro that turns on the TV, changes the channel to 3, and then turns on the digital tuner.

I’m in the same camp as you, Solai. I’ve been looking at the Logitech models, but there are so many different models I don’t know which would be best and I really don’t want to spend as much on a remote control as I would an iPod!

I’m third in this camp, I want to get one of the logitechs that works with the 360 too

Ironically enough, if we absolved ourselves of technology and all went camping instead, we wouldn’t need a remote control in the first place!

But that would suck so forget that

Exactly, I’m totally in your camp on this! ::cool:

But yeah we’re getting a bit off topic. Universal remote advice anyone?

Hmm, I am zooming in on a decision here. Logitech Harmony 880 looks to be the front runner/best bang for my buck. Any other thots?
