Really? My copy was like $5 when I bought it five years ago. I don’t even know if I still have it.
I mentioned this on Twitter, but I discovered that quite a few of the Blockbuster physical locations have the disc in stock for rental. So if you want to see it before-hand to catch up, give it a go. You can actually search via their website to see if it’s in stock at a given location.
A Tron Legacy Store will be open for six weeks in California-

I went to play this tonight at a friend’s house…would not play in his XBOX, played about 55 min in blu-ray player. Took it home, played it in my dvd,blu-ray, dvd-recorder, XBOX, computer AND a portable player and I get the same. I haven’t seen this movie since the 1980s and I bought this dvd when it was released 10 years ago. The second disc plays cause I watched that about two weeks ago. Anybody else have this problem with the 2oth annivesary edition? Can’t even get it on iTunes.
Cory Doctorow has a review up (he saw a screening) and he is pretty pleased with it. His review contains a very light spoiler at the end, but he gives warning and spaces it way below the rest of it so it’s easy to avoid if you prefer.
I bought some of the toys yesterday. First time I bought toys for a movie before I’ve actually seen the movie. I didn’t even think about it… I just wanted the the little white light cycle since I saw it in the trailer…
The Recongizer looked cool so I got that too.
I think the original Tron is hard to find on DVD because it’s suppose to be released on Blu-ray. I wonder if they are holding up the release of the original movie until after Legacy is released on DVD/Blu-ray as well.

I know they are saying something importnat but…HOLYCROMTHATCHICKISHOTNESS!!!
Wait. Daft Punk is actually in the movie?
In the DJ booth, homie! Twin tables, turnin’ labels!! Whatwhaaaat!!!
coiugh
I mean…yes, yes they are
Yeah, that’s what made me do a double-take. I had assumed that their Tron gear and all was just a tie-in because they did the soundtrack. It didn’t occur to me that they’d actually be onscreen during the actual movie. That’s too cool.
Just came from the midnight showing and the film was AWESOME! There aren’t words to describe how much it rocked. It lived up to the original and then some. My husband and I took our three year old with us and his eyes lit up so big it was so neat to see. My only issue was I fear the film will not be able to appeal to a mass audience. There were only twelve people in the theater with us, and most of them were sleeping halfway thru the film. When it was all over, a majority of them kept saying how stupid they thought it was. It made me sad because I realized that the younger generations, who haven’t seen the first film or understand its premise, just won’t get its significance. It also doesn’t help that Disney chose to not to re-release the film and instead left people who had never seen the original and were hungry for backstory desperate for copies. Used DVDs on Amazon were going for $200.00 and one person said there was an EBay auction already at $1000.00. In the end I fear it may not do as well as it should.

I saw the midnight showing last night and it was visually stunning. Seriously, wow. I felt the story itself was missing something, I can’t put my finger on it, but I didn’t really feel emotionally invested in the story. My eyes and ears were blown away, but my heart feels a tad disappointed. I’ll surely go see it again, and maybe I’ll catch more the next time around.
Watched it in its full 3D IMAX goodness… Very cool! And I liked the return of the solar sail craft and the flagship, it was both a great stand alone movie as well as an homage to the original.
Went to see it today.
When Flynn mentioned the digital lifeforms (don’t remember their name), I had a crazy theory that he might have interfaced (IYKWIM) with one of them and that the girl was actually Sam’s half sister. I’m not surprised they didn’t go that way, but I thought it was an interesting enough theory that I called it into the Crew too.
Except that would have made the whole Sam + Cora thing a little uncomfortable.
Overall, good film with moments of greatness. My 13 year-old god-daughter put it best after:
She wanted to know more about:
- TRON himself and why he turned
- The electronic world and how it functioned
- if Flynn is god and could anything in this world why doesn’t he simply go stop CLU?
The story left me hungry for more story as well. They did a good job bridging the past and now but didn’t give a whole lot about the world today. I was a little disappointed with Sam as an actor, kind of wooden and never let you empathize with him. Cora made up for this tho in spades.
Solid movie with serious potential.
No more so than Luke & Leia.
Guessing he was reprogrammed/brainwashed.
