“Everyone involved in “Revenge of the Fallen” is keeping the details under wraps, but Farrar says there are some 60 robot characters, and they play in settings around the world. Some, like refineries at night, were chosen to boost the visual drama and show off the scale of the giant 'bots…”

dat’s a lotta robots

Keep in mind Micheal Bay is going to be working a disinformation campaigin this time around. (Not sure where I heard this so it may be wrong)

However, I can’t wait for this movie!

Thanks for posting this. I can’t wait!

OK, now that’s hilarious.

There might be a disinformation campaign, but you could be wrong about that? LMAO

(All right, maybe it’s just me.)

I’m keeping with the disinformation theme.

sure ya do…

At the risk of being labeled a “hater” (not that there’s anything wrong with that), I’m curious what it is about “Transformers” people find so damn compelling. I missed that particular toy craze when I was a kid, so I don’t have any childhood fanboy connection to it. I did see the Michael Bay film, which was perhaps the stupidest film made so far in the 21st century (and I even thought his “Armageddon” was fun). Plot? A jumbled mess. Acting? Like community theatre, only stoned. Dialogue? Sarah Palin stupid.

Sure, some of the visual effects were cool (and I’m not just referring to Megan Fox). But shouldn’t Science Fiction be held to a higher standard before it gets fanboy devotion?

I want to hear from Transformers fans. Why do you dig it so much?

:confused::eek:

We don’t need to bring real world politics into this fourm…Please.

As for why people like it, I love it becasue…
It’s freaking big robots that blow crap up! Not all movies are supposedto have a deep story right? If every single show was like BSG life would be a dull and dark place, You need some popcorn movies to even life out.

As for your question about Sci Fi and higher standards… I’ll let someone else take that one.

…and I agree about the popcorn-movie sentiment. What honestly baffles me about the “Transformers” love is that to me the movie utterly failed on that level.

And, yeah, I guess I just don’t have the “love to see robots going boom for the heck of it” gene. I like a good boom as much as the next guy (ok, admittedly that sounds weird), but I thought the movie looked bad and cheesy, too. I’m also not much of a toy guy; is that a big part of the allure as well to Transformers fans?

I don’t know, I was more of a Gundam kid which also has robots but is a much more real and darker story then Transformers. I was only speaking for the movie really. I felt there were some bad(sorry chuck) scenes in the movie.

Honestly Chair…if you don’t get the appeal of robots turning into cars & explosions…I really don’t think it can be explained to your satisfaction. I was just a tad older when the Transformers craze hit…yet I had a lot of fun with the movie. Cool Cars, Giant Robots & lots of explosions…works for me!

There’s just something about giant robots that blow stuff up that appeals. And it is a bit of “mass-market” science-fiction, where people who claim to not like any SF can say “I liked that movie” and then be slowly converted to like other sub-genres of SF until they have become like us BWAAHAHAHAHAH!
(oops, sorry. Evil genius part of me took over on that last part)

It’s a time-tested story, the age-old battle between good and evil. I watched the cartoon as a child. I wasn’t into comics (unfortunately) so I can’t comment on those. Anyway, it’s a simple premise: Good guys (Autobots) vs. Bad guys (Decepticons) in order to sell merchandise.

The stories are fun and teach morals. Once you endear something as a child, it’s with you forever. So that’s the love you’re hearing.

If you don’t get Giant Frickin’ Robots! Then this ain’t for you. I can’t help you with sci-fi higher standard cuz there ain’t one. Sci-fi ranges from art-house ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ to B-movie ‘Plan 9 from Outer Space’. There’s plenty to love and fun for all.

Thanks, all!

Actually, the upcoming Transformers arc will explain a lot of this. Behind the kids cartoon and toys are some pretty interesting and compelling stories. They’re very comic-like stories in that they change, reset, re-start, and conflict as lots and lots of people put work into their creation – and they’re told at the speed of kid, so it takes some looking to get 'em all together. But that’s what we’re doing, and I hope you enjoy, or at least get a little more enjoyment from the second movie after our primer.
