I tried to hold out but I caved, sorry BBC One!

I thought it was pretty awesome, you can certainly feel the American/bigger budget influence and I think they’ve done a great job with it

This is the one part that stuck a nerve with me as well, but I am willing to look past it considering all of the extraordinary going on at the same time.

Anyone else notice the Cpt. Jacks fake FBI name was Owen Harper.

Loved the Owen nod…course it was wierd seeing Jack in a suit and tie

Yeah, I love the Owen mention. I STILL MISS THE OLD GANG, tbh. I also agree that I enjoyed the Gwen/Rhys (my fave)/Jack/Andy stuff, but not too gung ho on the new peeps, especially the guys since they were both way OTT for me. The girl is all right, but so far she’s used only as exposition to explain what Torchwood is and has yet to be a character. (I actually kind of miss that cute assistant girl from CoE who was helping them last season. Did she die? I can’t remember. I think I need a real Torchwood team, rather than just Gwen/Jack (and sorta Rhys) being the only ones saving the world.) But going back to Owen, because that only reminded me of his whole dead man walking arc, why was Jack so quick to assume that he’s now mortal? Yes, we see him get hurt and it doesn’t heal instantly like it used to. But that’s what’s happening to the world at large - people are still getting hurt, they’re just not dying from them. Which only means Jack is basically experiencing the same thing (thus far) - it’s hardly proof that he’s now mortal just because his wounds don’t heal as before, is it? There’s a leap in that line of thinking there that I’m not sure was earned, as if the parallel of ‘Jack immortal, world mortal. World immortal, Jack mortal’ was some kind of a unspoken rule rather than a conclusion they arrived at with evidence to back it up.

Yup. That was just, well, stupid. But I think it’s very much in line with what RTD does sometimes. He’s always capable of very interesting ideas (like miracle day, the premise is excellent and ambitious, and the possibilities are intriguing), but the execution lacks finesse, and this is one of the issues (among others) that I’m already seeing in this first episode. Hopefully it doesn’t continue on to become a bigger problem.

It is RTD’s style, he has a grand vision with that includes scenes and dialog that delve deep in to what makes these characters so wonderful.

Take a look at Doctor Who Season 4 “Stolen Earth” & “Journeys End”, a lot of events that defy all improbability, that bring us a point with the Doctor facing Davros. A stirring face off filled with a lot of emotion in which Davros reveals to the Doctor the ultimate tragedy of all of the Doctor’s adventures.

No way I was going to wait for the BBC to get around to screening it and given they are a minority partner and the UK audience rating system is as inaccurate as anyother I’ve no reason to watch the BBC, it’s not as if they don’t get my license fee regardless!

Anyhow I liked the opening episode, it wasn’t overly different to the style of the earlier Cardiff based productions but obviously on a slightly larger scale thanks to the reach of an US producer. Quite a lot of laughs and a decent cast, looking forward to the next episode.

Have you noticed there is a webseries in animation-style released with the episodes like on Dexter and other TV shows?

It enforces the conspiracy about “Miracle Day” and has some decent voice actors like Eliza Dushku.

The first ep just aired on the BBC. Above all, pretty good and you can really see the extra budget (I admit though I laughed out loud when Jack and the girl jumped out the window, being chased by the fireball :P).

Although the Jack becoming mortal bit, although slightly expected, is kinda weird. He was made immortal as far as I can remember, because he was zapped by the Time Vortex and became a fixed point in time. I doubt this will have anything to do with that (and Time Lord fuckery is pretty hard to undo) plus Jack had a completely different kind of immortality.

And its early days yet, but I really hope they don’t brush Jacks ‘actions’ at the end of Children Of Earth under the table. I doubt he could have worked through that completely by hitchhiking round the Galaxy for a few months.

But still, I am definately going to tune in next week :).

Hey guys!

My name’s Kimmy, and I’m actually working with Starz to help get the word out about Torchwood: Miracle Day - glad to see so much interest! I just wanted to give you all a heads-up that Starz will be streaming the first episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day for FREE starting at 12:01 AM ET/PT on July 8th on the show’s page, so now you’ve got no excuse to miss out!

The episode will be available from 7/8 – 8/21 on Starz.com.

We’ve also got a Foursquare page up and running - check it out, follow us, and stay tuned for some big news coming soon!

Like I said, I’m working with Starz - if you have any questions about Torchwood (aside from spoiler requests, ) just let me know!

One of the creepiest decapitation scenes ever.

And teenage me really used to keep track of that kind of thing.

Wow. Best spam ever!

Welcome aboard, Kimmy. Hope you stick around.

I love Torchwood, love the universe, characters, the place where it is set (heck that’s where I go 9/10 for my holidays. I have to say that it’s not gripping me as much (or just yet). It seems to be lacking the tension that previous Torchwood shows had.

What do people think so far?

I have to agree with Bishop. I thought S3 was pretty good - probably Torchwood at its best, and the pacing was helped by them airing them all in a week. But I don’t think the pace is the only problem in S4 - I think the problems had only increased since the premiere episode, I’m actually thisclose to dropping this season entirely because the last 2 episodes were pretty…awful for me, and I was hoping for an improvement from the premiere, not the other way around. I’m starting to feel like I’m watching a really cheesy soap opera, unfortunately…and not even a particularly good one at that.

It could be sending Rhys away that’s contributing to my disappointment thus far, of course, so I’m biased. But I’m not liking any of the new characters at all - way too generic - and while I think the premise is still bringing interesting possibilities that the show sorta addresses, I’m finding that I’m really annoyed with how they’re executing these plot points in every step of the way.

So yeah. I am disappoint. I’ll probably watch the season when it finishes so I can watch them in a row or something, maybe marathoning it would help?

He dies in the Dr. Who episode “Gridlock.”

I have not seen Miracle Day yet… is there a reference or inference to The Face of Boe?

In the Doctor who epi when jack and the doctor part company, jack asks if he will age at all. he said he has found an odd grey hair, and it bother him because when he was a kid, he was a model for a company called Boe. everyone called him the FACE of Boe.

I will be OK with this season if the BIG BAD turns out to be Jacks Daughter or even his dead Grandson form season three. and it all is to get jack back for his actions in Season 3…
