We watch on tivo because of work schedules so no frack party for me. I have to say that ianto’s death pissed me off. Yeah, i get it. It is the thing that will push the man with no fear and nothing to lose over the edge and he’ll kick alien butt. However I would frankly rather have seen them kill his daughter or grandson. They aren’t part of the show really, we have no investment in them. I was mad enough when RTD killed off my other man.
I am beginning to understand why so many Dr. Who fans hate RTD. I’ve been an apologist but no more. I’ll watch the finale but it may be my last Torchwood.
I completely understand, and 24-120 hours after I was still feeling that way (I saw it a few weeks ago) - you can read my over reactions a few posts (maybe a page back or so).
Now that I have had time to mull it over a few weeks I am OK with Ianto dying, not happy about still, I personally would have much rather we lost Gwen.
But this is SciFi - anything can happen. With the fan reaction to Ianto’s death maybe they will fix it some how, I doubt they will, but I still hold out hope.
John and RTD are at Comic Con this weekend and I think a few fans may be pretty vocal to RTD about the death - should be interesting to see his comments.
I have a few more thoughts, but I need people to see tonights episode before I post more.
While its sad to see Ianto die I really love shows that have the balls to kill main and beloved characters. I don’t always like my shows nice and fluffy where the main character is never really in peril. In Torchwood…or even Dr. Who we know that anyone, including the Doctor could die. The only character who is safe is Jack.
And even he dies eventually, yeah he is safe for now, but as far as we know he eventually dies far into the future
- assuming you are a Who fan and have seen all of the currect episodes it is not a spoiler.
I spend a lot of time in England, and had the chance to see “chlidren of earth” there in HD when it aired. So I am now watching it for the second time trying not to spoil things for a few co-workers that are into TW.
I really look at COE as RTD’s version of ‘Serenity’. I really do. this was a chance for him to “end” TW on his own terms and thats what he did.
Might there be a season 4… yeah. Maybe. and if there is there will be a new cast with Jack and Gwyn… Probably Lois… and others… and the franchise will go on.
