Torch of Freedom

So, I don’t know how many people obsessively follow the Honor Harrington series. Anyway, the eARC (advanced readers copy) of the newest book, Torch of Freedom, just came out, and I just finished reading it.

It’s a pretty cool book, at least plotwise. It was rushed though, and it really, really shows. The characters are especially bad; there’s great many generic Weber character moments throughout the book. I was kindof dissappointed, since Crown of Slaves is so good and this book is the sequel to that.

It’s sad how David Weber’s and Eric Flint’s writing schedules are effecting the quality of their writing so much. I believe both write books in ~2-3 month time periods, and have pretty full/tight schedules. This is especially apparent in Weber’s work, where he wrote (imho) considerably better books ten years ago then he writes now. Anyway, it’s kindof a pet peeve of mine, watching the quality of writing for the HH universe spiral downhill with each new book (I hope David allocates plenty of time for Mission of Honor, IIRC he did so for At All Costs, which was a step up).
