hate it when an aircraft carrier does that…just rude
in terms of the Mayan prophecy this movie is wrong in so many ways =P
I might netflix it during a slow entertainment period at some point
Its a roland emmerich movie, historical anything usually gets cast by the wayside for big-action-packed-blowy-up-stuffs and plots that make no damn sense. Stargate was one of the rare exceptions to this and he has yet to top it.
I’ll have to see if I can dig it up after work but I believe a friend of mine showed me a lightly edited trailer of this but just kind of edited in “SEE ALL YOUR FAVORITE MONUMENTS DESTROYED: THE MOVIE!” kind of thing
Isn’t this one of 3 the 2012 movies coming from Hollywood?
I’m curious as to what you mean by Starget was an exception? The historical accuracy of Stargate is laughable. (I still loved the movie)
i for one LOVE Roland Emrich movies. But i don’t watch them for any sort of realism. I go because they are over the top popcorn movies. They are fun. I cant wait to see this. Will it be a “good movie” no but will it be a thrill ride most certainly
agreed - no one should see this for any historical rerference…but to watch the vatican dome roll over the faithful…or the aricraft carrier hitting the captial…or…welll you get the idea.
2+0+1+2=5
Think RDM was trying to tie the final five into the 2012 phenonmenon?
Eh, probably not…
If you want to watch 2012. Just watch his other craptastic flick, ‘The Day After Tomorrow.’ Which was basically Independence Day on scale the of destruction (without the aliens).
I have no clue why studios keep throwing cash at Emmerich he is damn near making the same movies over and over. Then again people are suckers for extremely lame and weak plot 'splosions and destructionz movies.
…Excuse me?
Stargate was a Documentary.
This doesn’t seem interesting at all. It’s like The Day After Tomorrow… But timelier.
EDIT: Also, when it goes “The government’s got these ships…”, did anyone else immediately think Sky Captain? Because, uh… I did.
In Default Prophet-land!
I didn’t mean exception in the sense that there arent huge gaping historical plotholes, but as someone else pointed out, all of Emmerichs film are basically the same movie told over and over and over again. Stargate was an exception in that it had an engaging story, one that was interesting enough to spawn a series (not that it was all that great, successful, but kinda meh) and that cant be said about any of his other films. It became a franchise unto itself. He has yet to make a movie since that has haad an intruiging story behind it like Stargate did.
They posted 5 minutes of the movie. Let me tell you its 500 kinds of awesome. Totally absolutely brainless. It defies physics and logic in the worst possible ways. Its completely stereotypical of the disaster movie. But its amazingly fun.
As a pilot, I’m cautiously optimistic about the possibility of a movie positively prominently portraying General Aviation. I haven’t flown my Warrior between collapsing skyscrapers yet, but the day is young, I suppose…
This is a comedy, right? Because I have tears in my eyes from laughing at that.
I myself can’t really believe in the end of the world is coming just cause of a date on a calendar, much less in this fashion.
Plus, as someone who deals with aviation on a weekly basis, I find it very odd that after take-off, even with the runway sinking behind/beneath you, you would still be above whatever ground was still at its original level, not suddenly flying through a chasm. Also, why are they flying so damn low to the ground? CLIMB, damn you! Put out some flaps and redline your throttles! I’m not a pilot and I know it’s not that hard!
</nerdrage>
Hence my intro to the clip. Brainless. Completely absurd in accordance to all laws of physics and rationality. But Amazingly cool looking and super fun.
Saw the two-minute preview last night while watching “It’s Always Sunny in Philidelphia,” and… wow. This is one of those movies that I want to see for free and while drunk.
