Tom Zarek VS Bill Adama-pick a side!!

Ok so we know that Chuck and Sean are against the Adamalin “leadership” of the fleet.
So whose side are you on?

I’m with Sean and Chuck. I do however belive that Zarek should not be in power either.

We need Tigh and Lee in charge, No I’m not joking.

We do…with Helo as XO. Perfect combo, right there.

I will never trust Tom Zarek. I’m with Adama all the way.

we have to get past the things that happened in the old colonies… so he was a terrorist 20 years ago. He is speaking Democracy! Tom Zarek’s ideas for leadership… but not Tom himself.

You are missing the Baltar choice. In this case its not impossible since he’s creating the new religion.

You thought the fleet could go wrong, he’s not evil but he will sell all of you to survive a minute longer.

With everything happening, if nothing of the religion of old kick back and people start again having faith in it. They will go the Baltar way I’m pretty sure. Since religion is all powerful in this universe they could be in seriouser (well its a word now) trouble.

With Baltar worshipping the Cylon God he’s the only choice to unite the refugee S7’s and the humans who are down with the cylons. If Laura’s visions are accurate then Baltar and C6 will abscond with Hera at some point so I doubt that they’ll hanging around with everyone else because Athena and Helo won’t allow that without flying bullets.

I have to think a bit more about who I would want but I know who I don’t want. I know its not Gaeta and not Zarak. Neither have the skills to keep my butt alive. Given the situation like the remaining few of my species is facing extinction, Erf sucks, the ships are falling apart, all there is to eat is algae, Cavil and his gang want to kill, etc etc… I have to go who ever has the biggest guns, fastest FTL drive, the skills to use them, and the desire to keep as many civilians alive as possible.

If you believe in the ideals of a Democratic Society, you have to side with Zarek, as he is the ONLY Democratically elected representative, being a VP on the Baltar ticket, whereas Roslin as president the second time was essentially a coup.

If you are a realist, you side with Adama, in that this hasn’t been a Democratic society for more than 5 years, and a small dictatorship probably is the best chance for survival.

Frankly, after this rebellion, I think the powers that be need to admit to themselves and the fleet that Human Civilization is no longer a Democracy, and deal with what it has become.

After I posted my previous response I started putting more thought into this and it’s a real quagmire. Logistically speaking the end result will be affected who gets what and goes where.

Zarek may or may not be using this issue to gather a band of followers. The followers obviously want nothing to do with the cylons so the only option other than killing each until one side has a clear victory is to divide up the china and go seperate ways. Unless the rebel basestar has a large supply of tillium both parties are going to want that ship with them if they try to find a new homeworld.

Other than being known about by the Cylons was there anything wrong with the planet Kobol??? It was habitable right?

I’m recalling a scene back in Crossroads II (?) when Lee Adama is on the stand. He basically described them as a ‘gang’, bending the laws, doing the best they can to survive. And they are ‘gang’, they aren’t a democracy, haven’t been since the bombs went off. Under the circumstances I don’t know that you could function under a pure democratic system.

Besides, the series would of been very boring if we had to watch endless meetings of the Quorum debating this that and the other thing. It would be like watching C-SPAN.

Adama–as flawed as the system might be his actions are in the best interest of the fleet and human survival. Zarek is acting in the best interests of himself.

I love Democracy. But in this case there is totally a need for it to take a back seat. Even if it means that Adama faces war crimes once they find a habital planet i totally think its what is needed. The Democracy is failing. It is pulling apart the fleet and i think leading to the ultimate downfall of the human race.

Adama needs to declare Martial Law until they find a planet. That way he can act in a legal manner. He needs to put the Tillium ship under Military control. If a ship wants to desert they should be able to leave however they do it at their own expense.

Another thing.

The way the system works now is no longer valid. When you have 12 colonies then you can have representatives from each and it can be an almost equal system. However now there is likely a large difference in the populations between the colonies. The system should be adapted to have a representative amongst each ship in the fleet. for all we know half the people on the tillium ship could have wanted to stay with the fleet but were over ridden by their stronger more outspoken counterparts.

I choose Adama.
Roslin is sorta out of the picture anyway.

Adama tried the principled democracy thing – and look how THAT turned out. I am not saying it is right, and in fact I think this may be one of Adama’s fatal flaws, but I believe he blames himself for what happened on New Caprica. If he had been a little less principled and a little more hard assed the Fleet would have avoided the heavy blood price they paid for their democratic decision. He’s not going to make that same “mistake” again – a resolve that will blind him to a more diplomatic solution.

If you want the human race to live long enough to find the lasting peace necessary for a strong democracy, back Adama. Zarek is the man too early. His principles will get the Fleet killed (he as much as admitted to Gaeta the cost of their actions would be high). That said, the Adama of pre- New Caprica would have used a bit more finesse which, perhaps, makes Adama the man too late.

Given only Zarek and Adama as a choice, I would back Adama.

That depends on if installing Cylon jump drives isn’t a big con.

If all their jumps are going to be controlled by a hybrid I’d be saying “no!” too, but that shouldn’t be the case. And if it is the case that would make Adm. Adama worse than Baltar. Baltar didn’t know that Caprica Six was a Cylon when he gave her codes he shouldn’t have, but Adama knows full well he’s installing Cylon technology without proper precautions. Adm. Adama and Apollo shouldn’t be keeping secrets about why they know the 5th Cylon is probably a dead female. How much else have the citizens of the fleet not been told? Have they not been told the biggest revelation yet, that the 4 new Cylons have 2,000 year old memories of Earth? Do most people in the fleet still think the Cylons are just weapons of war?

Thanks for all the great posts everyone!
I’m going to think abot what everyone has said and then I’ll make another post.

I didn’t realize Zarek had principles

Not only that, he probably had a mother too, unlike the Cylons.

I still haven’t voted. I’m seriously torn over the issue. Or at least how to answer this.

Knowing what I know as a viewer, I’m comfortable with Adama. Generally. BUT it’s a huge gamble to put Cylon technology on the other ships. We still don’t know if Cylonz are ultimately subject to higher programming. I don’t know if I’d bet the future of the race on it.

If I were an average guy in the fleet, I’d side with Zarek in a heartbeat.

I’m inclined to trust the cylons. They need Galactica and its Vipers when evil Cavil comes calling. A cylon con or ploy would be self-defeating.

Like or not the cylons and humans (?) must learn to trust each other if either are going to survive.
