So it seems now Tom Cruise has hired RDM for some kind of sci-fi trilogy. I guess I cant say anything about this until we have some more information. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/36435
And I was having such a good day. shoulders droop If it’s anything, I bet it’s Mission Earth.
Stay away from the light, Ron !!!
Gods no. This better not be scientology crap.
Could you conceive of such being re-imagined? Then again, it could be a trilogy about the war with Anonymous. The problem, though, is that that would be most simply done as a series of three shorts that could be shown at CineVegas.
I hope note; I hope – hope – it’s more like Minority Report, or something original. Please.
Did you (or anyone else) out there read the whole Mission Earth series? Disclaimer: This is memories from a 9th-grade me talking, but I remember the first three books being really good. And then I know there’s considerable lag between writing and publishing, but L. Ron Hoover (sic; it’s a Zappa joke) died after #3 was released, and the rest of the series suddenly became unreadable. And I got the idea it wasn’t written by the same guy.
At least that’s how I remember it. Was it just me?
Long as we’re barely on the subject, grade-school me really enjoyed the hell out of Battlefield Earth, and much-older me thought the movie blew chunks. But I remember the book fondly.
Tom Cruise IS Mr Spock IN:
a Ron Moore production:
Star Trek II : Wrath of Dianetics
with John Travolta as Captain Christopher Pike,
and Isaac Hayes as Leonard “Bones” McCoy.
Coming to a theater near you.
not really
Tom Cruise may be on the odd side, in real life but he is a good actor, and on average his movies are better than most.
battlefield earth seems most likely, and it makes me afraid cause Battlefield earth was just awful. but Hey look what RM and DE did for battlestar so i’d give it a chance.
Battlefield re-imagined! Heck yeah!
How am I able to see that? Yet I’m reversing Hayes (Spock) and Cruise (McCoy) and Travolta is in the blinky light chair doing his best acting ever. There is a dance scene when he gets to Talos IV.
Well, if it’s true, I’ll never see it because I’ve boycotted everything Tom Cruise has touched ever since his rant on anti-depressant medications. Even Ron Moore’s name isn’t enough to change that.
OMG Travolta in the blinky chair on the blinky floor…I’m going to pee myself. And I never do that !
Let’s hope that it’s a UA project and not a Tom Cruise project cause then it most like likely be something written by Hubbard. I have read Battlefield Earth and the first 4 Mission Earth books…not the best Sci-Fi I’ve ever read.
I have to respectfully disagree, Boomer. Tom Cruise USED TO BE a good actor. Now, to me at least, he’s become one of those actors (like Al Pacino since Scent of a Woman–at least, though with some exceptions [i.e. The insider]) whose performances have ceased to be performances and are more about hamming up exagerated versions of their own personalities (in Pacino I credit this to laziness; in Cruise, vanity). I just can’t watch his movies anymore.
Though Minority Report WAS good. If Spielberg, or someone like him, directs an RDM script, I may sit through a Tom Cruise movie again.
i still believe Tom Cruise is a great actor. He’s done work in so many film Genres and he sure can pull off an Epic story (something all Sci-Fi fans love). Have you seen The Last Samurai? no? See it!
He’s also supposed to have a hilarious Cameo in the upcoming comedy Tropic Thunder. I don’t think his career has turned Pacino just yet.
Yeah, I enjoy cruise as an actor. It’s sad that all the media attention on his whole crazy scientologist thing really does ruin him a bit. Knowing about the actor’s personality wrecks the characters… I can’t take a tom cruise movie seriously anymore just cause all I see is cruise and I don’t see the characters.
I hope this trillogy is something good. I loved minority report, so hopefully it’s something like that.
I used to really love him. I mean - TOP GUN. Can you get any cooler than that?
But he is a total nut and the fact that he is a scientologist just totally turns me off. I can’t take him seriously at all.
oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no…
All I can say is Tom Cruise better not brain wash RDM - or I will seriously hunt him down and beat him with a bag of shiny nickels.
I agree. I can actually like him when his character is an asshole- War of the Worlds, Colateral , even Rainman, but the rest of the time he’s just slick and pretty and it’s old. Now with his wacky personal life taking front stage, it’s too much. I don’t know a lot about Scientology and I won’t bash it here, but you don’t see the others believers like Travolta or Kirstie Alley wearing it on their sleeves when they know their target audiences all think it’s a cult.
I suspect RDM thinks Cruise will come with a budget big enough to make the project be all it can with CGI, etc. But I doubt I’ll go.
Trust me on this - it is better to know NOTHING about Scientology because once you learn the basic tenants, you will lose all respect for anyone who could believe in such non-sense.
P.S.
Yes I am very anti-Scientology.
