Time Machine Battle Royale!

Ok, before you knee-jerk for our old established friend I want to pose the following question:

Which is the FUNNIER idea for a time machine: a Delorean or a hot tub? We accept the Delorean now as gospel, but remember Marty’s reaction in the original movie: “You built a time machine? Out of a Delorean?” the whole thing was an elaborate joke further mocking one of the greatest auto industry failures of all time. We see it as cool now, but it was intended to be a joke.

With that context set I ask the question which is the funnier (not more plausible) time machine plot device: Delorean v. Hot Tub!

Your vote is public, only one per customer. Certain restrictions apply. Mileage may vary.

I vote for the cardboard box time-machines from Primer. Seriously, you can fold the time machine.

Close runner-up:

The TARDIS. It’s a police box. It’s bigger on the inside. It’s a police box and it flies down a highway rescuing a bride from robot santa. That’s pretty funny

I gotta go with the Phone Booth from Bill and Teds I mean when they packed all those historical figures into it is pretty funny.

A superhero making the world spin backwards. As Samantha Carter said, “Oh, if you only knew how ridiculous that was.”

Or…

Sling shotting around the sun.

But, if limited I were limited to the two choices, I have to say a hot tub is sillier. No matter what age I am, an automobile time machine is just cool. Unless it was a Prius or Yugo (remember them?).

My first thought was to vote for a blender, but thats not up there. If it was down to a delorean or a hot tub, the hot tub wins hands down.
Im thinking giant tshirt gun, giant can of woof brand chili, one of those trains that kids ride on during the christmas holiday at the mall. Im still waiting for these infinitely more ridiculous and hilarious things to be time machine vehicles. Im waiting hollywood, bring it on.

Does anyone remember the TV show “Voyagers” where they traveled through time with a pocket-watch/compass looking device called the OMNI? It never worked right and they always ended up in the wrong place and time.

Hell yes!

Loved that show. Was the OMNI damaged? I never understood the problem there.

I dont know. I always guessed it needed calibrating or they just didnt know how to operate it.

How about the map from Time Bandits?

I loved that show too. Too bad about Hexum really.

I forget whether the Omni was damaged or they just had issues not having the manual…

I just watched the whole series via Netflix (non-Instant Watch, snail mail). I loved that show, as well. For the latest Fantasy Sci-Fi roundup, I wanted to do a Voyagers! theme but was unsure how many people remembered the show or were of the age to have seen it. Instead I went with Holodeck Gone Wild. Anyway, the OMNI did get damaged once and Thomas Edison “fixed” it. He took it apart and back together again.

It was never explained why Bogg wound up in the 1980s. It was alluded to as Fate. Jeffrey was meant to become a Voyager so the OMNI sent Bogg there to retrieve him. I wondered what happened to the two main character actors. I was surprised and saddened to learn that Hexum was killed accidentally on set of another production by a firearm loaded with blanks, similar to what happened to Brandon Lee. Meeno Peluce left acting and pursued writing and producing, after college.

Yeah, when I heard about Brandon Lee, I had deja vu.

Unrelated, but when the Xena actor who played Ares, Kevin Smith, died in 2002, I had a touch of deja vu again. But, I know they died differently.

I saw a Delorean FOR SALE today. $25,000 and its yours. Wish I could…

Heh. The flag shadows in the top one look like scorch marks.
