Thoughts from Babylon 5 After My First Time Through

Speaking of God…
“Ambassador Kosh has been a busy boy today.”
“They say God works in mysterious ways.”
“Maybe so, but He’s a con-man compared to the Vorlon.”
Garibaldi and Sinclair in Deathwalker (S1)

Yeah to be honest with S4 of BSG just around the corner I really don’t think a rewatch of B5 is going to happen any time soon. Maybe in the off season?

I’d like to see it done though. Any chance for a repeat viewing of Lyta Alexander just cannot be ignored…

My, you have lovely eyes.

Ahem…my eyes are up here.

Sorry. I did mean after bsg ended and just a thread, nothing big lol…sorry sometimes I just get to excited lol

Well, if anyone is still interested in doing a re-watch, I have a suggestion. We could do a round robin kind of thing where maybe one of us recommends an episode (one at a time due to the sheer number). So someone names the episode of the week, and we see what everyone thought of it. Then someone else, and so on…

Just a quick thought.

That could work. I’m looking at some other stuff right now as well.

Babylon 5 is really among my top 5 all time greatest shows. Not just Sci-Fi, ALL of them. I was also reluctant at first to even go there. I had watched the Pilot & had written it off as yet another disappointing sci-fi series. Hokey concepts, stiff acting, horrible costumes.

Then I was working afternoons at a video store. There was NOTHING on at 1am on Sunday nights. There was a local station that would air the show at that time. So I started kind of watching it by default, this was during second season. after a while I started to see the story within the stories. I started getting intrigued by the bigger picture they were developing that you would not see by just watching an episode here & there. By that time I was irretrievably hooked.

I am also of the opinion that the show got immeasurably better by adding Boxleitner into the mix. Walter Koenig…man what can you say? He will eventually go into the television hall of fame & be recognized for his acting in several ways. My disappointment is, it won’t be for his work as Bester. It is easily his best acting, he sunk his teeth into him & wouldn’t let go. Far, FAR superior to Chekov. Peter Jurasik & Andreas Katsulas are simply amazing. I also knew something truly special was going on when I saw Deep Space 9 blatantly ripping off the major concepts & story from it. All of that stuff with the Dominion was the Shadow War in the Trek-verse.

If you haven’t seen it, watch it, watch it now. This show ended up being a revelation for me. It opened me up to realizing that television can be so much mroe than it is. If given the nurturing & the belief, it television can be simply amazing.

I must also add…to this day when I watch Lost & see Mira Fulan I have to smile to myself & say “there’s Delenn!”

I’m currently in the middle of watching season 4. I watched the pilot when it first aired and dismissed it as a little cheesy. A few years later I started catching it on TNT and got completely hooked on the show. I was lucky enough to pick the whole series up at Best Buy for 20 bucks a pop. Finally!

Another B5 show to consider is the extremely short-lived “Crusade.”
It followed the movie “A Call to Arms.”

YOu know, i really need to call chuck and tell him not to watch In the beginning first. It’s a GREAT film, but it ruins the first season lol

Bah! The first season isn’t that great anyway.

Oh come on!!! It has Sinclaire! Fraking Sinclaire! And zip then fasten or fasten then zip!

True! And Garibaldi had hair!

He was much better later on. Sinclaire made me sleepy.
