I know the site has a BSG thread but that gets taken up with some pretty cool stuff. What about having a separate theory thread, specifically for discussing theories and nothing else? Just a thought. Any takers?
Sure. Here’s one to start us off:
I have a sneaking suspicion that our girl Kara Thrace is the daughter of Socrata Thrace and a Leoben-model Cylon (but not the actual Leoben). This would make her one of the first, if not the first Hylon (human/Cylon hybrid), like Hera and little Nicky Tyrol.
Note: Leoben’s model number is not known—to my knowledge—but since this theory requires making a distinction between the Cylon we know as Leoben and other members of his model number, let’s call it model 2, for clarity’s sake.
Let’s say that a #2 was planted as an inflitrator on Caprica during the hiatus between the Cylon War and the attack on the 12 Colonies, just like Caprica Six was, except that this guy was planted shortly after the Armistice, let’s say 25 or 30 years before current BSG time. He falls in love/seduces/what-have-you with Socrata Thrace, and they conceive Kara Thrace. #2 sticks around for a bit, but disappears after Socrata finds him out somehow, or #2 decides that he’s played his part, and beats it back to a basestar or something. This leads to Socrata raising Starbuck as a girl with a ‘special destiny’, but training her to deal with it in her own inimitable way.
This could go a long way to explaining the current Leoben’s unhealthy fixation with Starbuck. He’s aware that their destinies are entwined. After all, he knows that she is the progeny of one of his brethren. He is convinced that, as far as he knows, she’s the first Hylon, and the chosen one to lead the RTF to Earth.
At the end of Maelstrom, you see Kara by her dying mother, and you see a #2 (who emphatically states that he is not Leoben) play a comforting, very fatherly role as he sits by Kara at Socrata’s deathbed.
In addition, it’s been stated before that Leoben is one of the Cylons that thinks that the basestar Hybrids’ stream-of-consciousness babble has a meaningful spiritual interpretation. Who’s to say that the reason that Leoben takes the Hybrid’s babble so seriously isn’t because of the
old Hybrid’s warnings to Kendra (and to other Cylons before, surely) about Starbuck
in Razor?
If Kara is indeed a Hylon, this could also explain Kara’s special treatment at the Farm. The Cylons could have been frakking with Kara’s reproductive organs in order to see how viable the reproductive prospects of the new Hylon breed were.
Additionally, the tendency for Cylons to fall in love with Humans makes the Lee-Anders-Kara-Dee love square a whole lot easier to understand: Kara’s Human side is attracted to Anders, a Cylon; her Cylon side is attracted to Lee, a Human; and poor Dee’s stuck in the middle, watching the dance.
Could it be that the events of Maelstrom forced Kara to confront her Cylon half, by being the first Human (or part Human, at least) to see the ‘place between life and death’, and thus heralding the ‘shape of things to come’, in other words, the eventual merging of the Cylon and Human gene pools?
Any thoughts?
