Themed Avatar Archive

Hi All,

Everybody has been so creative adapting their personal avatars to the movies being discussed and I’ve really enjoyed watching them change to each. I thought it would be fun to start a thread where we can post our pictures so they are archived once we move on to the next set of movies. Anyway, I’ll start it off even though others have been much more creative than I have:

SW: Favorite character and we kind of look a bit alike too (at least before the motorcycle accident).

Matrix: Simply copying the theme established by Somebody before me. Somebody always has the good ideas.

Terminator: Shamelessly stolen from www.shapish.com.

BTTF: My only “original” modification.

Neat idea. I upload mine directly, so I’ll have to put them online.

Shat. Shat. and more Shat.

and, for good measure I am throwing in one siggy that I made that I am proud of…

I haven’t the technical expertise to vary my avatar… I picked Padme for the Star Wars arc, and I’ve grown too used to her to change it since then.

But please, everyone else, I want to see the pretty avatars!

Don’t change a thing

Yeah, part of my motivation was to get a better look at some of the avatars. It took my a while to notice what Pike did for BTTF, and only on looking at Frakkintalos’s larger picts did I notice the Kirk’s face for Marty. I guess if Michael J Fox put on a few pounds he could be the spitting image of the Shatman…

(EDIT: Updated 11/25/08 to add Will Smith arc avatars)

Well, my avatars–themed or otherwise—weren’t particularly creative.
But for some reason, they always have a at least a tinge of the color green, and they don’t smile.

From left to right.

My orginal avatar: Duncan Idaho game piece from the game “Dune.”

Duncan Idaho (Dune): Duncan Idaho from the Sci-Fi miniseries “Dune”.

Duncan Idaho (Children of Dune): Duncan Idaho from the Sci-Fi miniseries “Children of Dune”. (I converted to cuz I promised Solai I would when Solai finished reading/watching “Children of Dune”.)

Qui-Gon Jinn: For the Star Wars arc.

Neo-Duncan: For the Matrix arc.

Kyle Reese: For the Terminator arc.

Marty/Doc: For the Back to the Future Arc

Duncan with Shades for “Men in Black”

Duncan with Independence Day movie poster

Old Duncan with I, Robot robot

Same here. I used to have Buster Bluth because, well, Arrested Development is my other cult classic favorite show (now long since gone, alas) and I like the ridiculousness that is Buster. But, now I have “Armando,” Amy Wong’s “friend” with whom she likes to have “coffe” in the back seat of his car. Cause, well, it’s a sci-fi character (albeit one with a very brief appearance) named after me (that’s right. Matt Groening named him after me. You heard me!). Solai was kind enough to Matix-fy my avatar once, but since that arc is over, I’ve returned to its normal look.

I started off with a picture of Sasuke.

Then I changed to Itachi around the Star Wars Arc.

Then I used a pic done by someone much more talented than myself for the Matrix Arc.

Later I was able to snap this photo of a T-101 with Sharingan (very rare). I had to use my night vision camera and he told me to frak off. Luckily he was looking for some kid named John.

Finally I found this pic of Grandpa Madara with the Doc and Marty.

OK, here’s the original. It’s from TOS BSG, and shows Starbuck and a Centurion that he rebuilt from the mangled crew of a downed raider. He named it, quite cleverly, “Cy.”

Here’s the Matrix version. I think Solai actually did this one for me.

This is the Terminator version. Obviously it’s a T-800 POV, so he’s ignoring the toaster.

And this is the Back to the Future version. Someone is clearly messing with the timeline.

All of them are Mr. T Themed. The matrix and BTF ones were homemade.

[My Matrix Icon is missing]

Those are made of win!

Thanks Pike. I barely noticed yours changed for BTTF arc but now that I’ve noticed it. It is very clever.

I’ve got to give mad props to Solai. He was incredibly instrumental in bringing the Shat to life in all them universes. It’s been said before and will be said again, “Solai Rocks!!”

Battlestar

Star Wars

The Matrix- At least thats what it looked like before being reduced to stamp size.

Terminator - This one I made myself.

That’s my favorite.

I’m just saying.

Glad I’m not the only one! Pike even PMed me a great Matrix one of mine, but I couldn’t get it on the forum.

I prefer when people just add something themed to the avatar I know and love. I’m funny that way.

Not really. It’s pretty much your identity.

I didn’t have an avatar for a long while on the forum, because everyone knew me from the blog as “Pike.” Eventually I decided that TOS BSG was needing some love and went with one of the images I remembered from it.

Still, I don’t do dramatic switches, just variations on the same theme. (Some very subtle, some not so much.)

On forums without avatars, your sigs fill the same function, and shouldn’t be changed lightly. (I’ve had the same sig on /. for years.)

But that’s just the grumblings of an old man who grew up with BBSes etc. You kids will have to make your own culture.
