The Simpsons are Catholic!?

This is just plain silly…

Does anyone at the Vatican even watch the Simpsons??

I was pretty sure their church was Lutheran. According to producer Al Jean, the church of Springfield belongs to “The Western Branch of American Reform Presbylutheranism.”

But wait… there’s more!

“The Schism of Lourdes in 1573 marked the Presbylutherans’ official split from the Roman Catholic Church over the Presbylutherans’ right to attend church with wet hair. That right has since been abolished.”

Per Wikipedia.

Not to mention that Homer represents a constant affront to the laws of God, man, and nature, so I can’t really imagine him being a part of such a regimented religion.

mmmm…affront to monotheiistic absolutism… /drooooollllll

No direct relation but a few years ago I listened to a Catholic Priests podcast as he toured The Simpsons studios, this is pure fanboy and a great listen.

CI Podcast

XD is that Father Roderick? I’m not Catholic but I listen to some of his other “Secrets of…” podcasts.

It’s nice to see the mental giants at the Vatican got a worse excuse for education than I did in my underfunded backwoods Catholic schools. Dumbasses.

again, they are Lutheran. They mention it multiple times in the show. what are they going to say next? fry and bender are Mormon?

haha looks more like an hook from the church to reach the people. Funny to try to associate with a satiric character who represent the worse in our society.

Don’t get me wrong I love Homer in the Simpsons, but it’s because he’s fictional and completely over the top. If you would translate that in real life it would be a terrible individual.

  • Strangle his kids
  • Drives drunk all the time
  • Selfish to the extreme (except in some rare occasions)
  • Safety operator in a nuclear power plant (that he doesn’t know anything about)
  • And so much more

And Bart, except in the episode when he sold his soul to Milhouse for 5$ (which Milhouse bought Alf pug with it (it’s Alf he’s back! in pug form)) and prays for it after that. I never saw him have any religious inclining whatsoever.

A funny statement overall. Maybe they meant Ned Flanders but didn’t know the TV show enough.

and if we’re just going to argue that they’re not catholic remember the episode where a reality show framed Homer and Marge for murder when they were working as butler and maid for an old woman they couldn’t say no to?

on death row a priest visits them

Marge: Thank you Father…but we’re not Catholic
Priest: oh dear dear dear well I hope you be enjoying your stay in hell then

Well that kind of close the discussion about it, forgot that part about that episode.

oh and hahaha at … Priest: oh dear dear dear well I hope you be enjoying your stay in hell then
