The Secret World of Alex Mack

does it count as Scifi? I miss that show… I guess chemical transportation accident + little teenage girl = super powers (finger zapping, morphing, telekinetic, and super strength) should be some sort of scifi.

i wonder if i’ll be the only one on the forum who likes this show…

i used to watch it back in the day, i’d definitely say it’s sci-fi (i’m pretty sure toxic ooze making a girl able to morph into a puddle of molten metal is sci-fi). kinda stopped watching after the first couple seasons, but that’s probably because i kinda stopped watching nickelodeon around that time.

This was one of those classic Nickelodeon SNICK shows I remember as a kid. What teenager wouldn’t want to have super powers? I wonder if they still make good shows like this today for kids and teenagers? What do kids have to watch, is it all animation and 29th generation Power Rangers?

Agreed. I definitely had my Nickelodeon phase, but it didn’t last long.

I didn’t think of it as sci-fi at the time, just a show I liked, and that lots of my classmates liked. Plus it has a girl protagonist, but it wasn’t a “girl” show, which was pretty cool to my young self.

She had that many powers? I just remember her melting into a puddle and then coming back naked. C’mon what do you expect I was young and impressionable and the chick was hot and it’s okay to say so cause she’s over 21 now

Larissa (Alex Mack) was definately hot. Well, not in a Jessica Alba way, but I have to say Alex pretty much my type of girl.

Btw, Jessica Alba was also in the Alex Mack show… so if you stopped watching Nick around that time, it’s kind of your lost :stuck_out_tongue:

Personally, since I didn’t have cable when I went to college, I didn’t get to see how the show ended. I didn’t get to see the final season of B5 for the same reason.

Nickelodeon don’t make good non-cartoon shows like this anymore. Alex Mack was a show promoting girls being smart and girls being strong. Now most teen shows with girl protagonists are about how they are so popular.

I freaking loved this show! I need to re-watch this one one day. good god I wouldn’t have cared if anyone knew I had those powers I’d show them off any chance I got. I just don’t get the “You have to keep it a secret even from your parents who are both brilliant scientists” plot. come on, really?

Her and Mellisa Joan Heart were like my favorite tv chicks back in the day. Which I find odd since I don’t really like blondes now years later. Dunno.

Alex Mack
Clarissa Explains It All
Sabrina The Teenage Witch

yeah… totally had a huge crush on Melissa Joan Hart when I first saw Clarissa Explains It All. And I didn’t even understand a word she said since i watched it in German…

When I moved to the States, I was a little shocked at how different the show sounded in English.

I didn’t like Sabrina the Teenage Witch as much. But I liked when Melissa went to talk shows to get interviewed, she’s got quiet a personality. She is now a mom with 2 kids. Hopefully she can get back to her Sabrina shape and pick up her career again.

I didn’t really have a crush on Larissa, but I enjoyed Alex Mack show a lot more than Clarissa. They should have really made Ferguson an alien like Clarissa always thought, that would make the Clarissa show a lot better…

Most television for children and adolescents doesn’t promote anyone being smart, particularly girls. I think hansioux’s right where most shows revolve around being popular. I should also note my opinion is based on what my little cousins see, and what I read about television… the whole no cable thing, and all.

I also enjoyed Clarissa, though I didn’t get to watch it when it was new.* I’ll still put on Sabrina when I’m at my parent’s (yes to cable there) if there’s nothing else that catches my eye, for the most part it doesn’t make me angry, so that’s a plus.

*My television consumption in childhood was seriously restricted. A lot of the “popular” shows from when I was very small I have absolutely no idea what they’re about or have ever even seen an episode. I spent my time playing with Legos, make-believe, and reading.

I liked Alex Mack but didn’t love it. Thinking about it now, does she remind anyone else a little bit of Claire from Heroes? Just in terms of the innocent appeal of her and her motivations for hiding her powers. I never had a crush on Larissa Oleynik, but she was pretty great on several Nick shows and in 10 Things I Hate About You.

yeah, when I started watching Heroes Claire certainly reminded me of Alex Mack. She also had a weird boy side-kick :stuck_out_tongue: Alex Mack had Ray the black friend, and Claire had Zach the gay friend.

But Heroes really ruined Claire’s character for me… and Alex would kick Claire’s butt… She can probably even take on Peter…

Sigh… I have been putting off watching S.2 of Heroes but will have to give in and wade into that mess soon. And of course Alex Mack could kick Claire’s butt! Peter’s, too- I’d put money on it.
