Has any one given this series a read? Made up of 4 books (I think) - The Many Colored Land, The Golden Torc, The Nonborn King, and The Adversary.
A dash of sci-fi, some (OK, maybe a lot) alternate history, throw in a bit of dynastic drama. Throw in aliens - make 'em “gods”. Mmm, mmm. Sorry, just being a little facetious.
It’s about how, in our future, many people, over time, sought escape from a way of life that they find increasingly hard to adapt to. However, the place that they travel to proves to be far from the ideals that they had originally envisioned - another set of culture(s) has already settled there and don’t take too kindly to these “new” arrivals. Some of these travelers managed to thrive, developing and learning abilities that can move mountains (yeah, literally); the others, don’t. Some others manage to band together, seeking unlikely allies, and fight until they can’t (I had to add that).
That’s a bit melodramatic - maybe chessy, super vague, but I was trying to not give anything away. However, (the mighty) wikipedia has a pretty good and detailed synopsis if any one is interested - spoilers, of course: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saga_of_Pliocene_Exile
Those that have read these books, what do you think? It’s not bad, I thought. They are nice quick reads. I recommed them for a good weekend “escape”. 'Course, I read them when I was younger so your milage may vary…
