Thought I’d throw this out there, though I don’t expect to get any takers. It’s hard to stoke interest in shows this old.
(This would actually be far more appropriate in a Lost forum for all it’s parallels, but the only one I frequent is The Hydracooler, and it’s new and pretty unpopulated as of yet …come visit.)
I’ll be starting my own extended rewatch of The Prisoner in the BSG intrum.
I picked up the 2 volume hardcover editions of the original production scripts and plan on reading each script prior to watching an episode. So if anyone is interested to discuss as I go along, I’m up for it.
Patrick McGoohan’s 1960’s thought provoking labor of love, The Prisoner, only ran for 17 episodes. McGoohan plays a former British secret agent who, after trying to quit, is transplanted to The Village, a quaint, odd and mysterious Orwellian seaside compound of former spies and other international operatives, all held captive because of what they know. In The Village, people are referred to only as numbers and live under constant surveillance.
Our hero, now referred to only as Number Six spends most of the series trying to escape The Village and playing mental cat and mouse with his ever rotating interrogator, Number Two.
Imbued with an overall feeling of paranoia, subtle Sci-Fi overtones and an anti-establishment POV, The Prisoner was far ahead of it’s time and still has a strong cult following today. And it seems a remake is going to finally happen too.
Here’s a tribute to the show to give you a little taste…
Be seeing you.
