The Orange Box

One man’s waste is another man’s profit!

The way I see it even if youve bought half life 2 the orange box still represents the best value youre going to get for you money this year, you get two amazing games with a playtime of around 6 hours each and then you get team fortress on top of that which will last you ages before you get bored of it. As tycho from penny arcade put it “Having already purchased two fifths of The Orange Box over the last few years, the level of value I have derived from it is “fantastic” but not “supernatural.” For Gabriel, who never finished the second Half-Life and never purchased the first episode, the aforementioned Box represents an intimidating and possibly even brutal level of content for one’s holiday dollar.”

Indeed. As someone who had never played HL2 or anything else in the Orange Box as far as I was concerned it was an incredible value.

And while I imagine that I may have been less happy if I had previously bought HL 2 and HL2 Ep 1 I still think it may be worth it for HL2 Ep 2, TF 2 and Portal (which I am playing through again just because of the sheer fun of the thing. I just hit Terminal Velocity! :D)

I actually played through my brother’s copy of HL2, skipped episode 1 and therefore scored a great value.

O’Course two weeks ago I bought Bioshock KNOWING it wouldn’t run properly w/ my video card because of the pixel shader nonsense and was disappointed the homemade fixes weren’t enough to make it playable for me. Loaned it to the BF and may just call it a gift and get another copy sometime next computer build. I’m still set for Hellgate and Fallout 3 hopefully. And heck I’m a pretty simple girl-- I’m still playing Oblivion almost two years later.

While playing through Half-Life 2, I thought the voice of one of the characters sounded familiar so I checked. Turns out that Dr. Mossman is voiced by none other than Admiral Caine herself; Michelle Forbes. (I knew there was a reason not to trust her!)

(And Dr. Breen is voiced by Robert Culp; I didn’t realize that.)

I’m looking forward to picking it up since I have played all incarnations of the Half-Life games. Fun shooters, immersive, good storytelling which is important to me. I have never played Halo, but it must have similar qualities. And portal seems interesting. TF2 sounds cool too. Good value.

I just finished Bioshock, and that will be a very tough act to follow. Best story in a video game I have ever played, superb art work, just a lot of fun. I was cursing after Bioshock after I bought it because my computer would just crash all the time loading it, but NVIDIA came up with a beta driver (no longer beta) that made it work great with my video card. Glad I kept trying to fix it.
