The *New* Halo Discussion 7hread

By the recommendation of others I have decided to resurrect the Halo-verse discussion. As of this posting, more announcements on upcoming Halo related Bungie projects are forthcoming, Halo Wars is reaching hype-status, and rumblings of the Halo movie’s rebirth are also just starting to hit the internet.

My first point of discussion:

If Bungie’s next project is Halo related, where do you think they are going with it (or where SHOULD they go with it)?

Also: Has anyone heard anything about Peter Jackson’s Halo project?

Jackson’s Halo project is if not completely dead, a heartbeat away from it

I sure hope not. His plans were for some sort of episodic content, and his creative talents are sure to add even more depth to Halo fiction.

I thought I heard Wingnut Interactive (his game company) was hiring for the project, but no news on it’s status as far as I can tell.

I’m am physically incapable of letting a discussion of Halo or Bungie go by without mentioning Marathon, the greatest FPS EVAH!

Can’t argue with the greatness that is Marathon. Frog Blast the Ventcore!

Some have said that Bungie’s project is Marathon 4. Somehow I doubt that, what with the money pit that is Halo, but they did relaunch Durandal on XBLA. That’s a step in the right direction.

Let’s not forget, between Marathon and Halo is another forgotten masterpiece, Myth.

What’s ‘Halo’ ?

The poor man’s Marathon.

Marathon, but with John117 as the main character perhaps? Speaking of which, has anyone else tried it? I did, but I just couldn’t get into it.

I just now caught the “7hread” part of this thread’s title.

The 7ruth is out there…

I think one of the reasons Marathon is not as highly regarded in modern times as Halo seems to be is because of how the story was told. While Halo is much more akin to a movie, where you simply cannot play without being part of the story, Marathon told it through the terminals. (read: Marathon Man achievement in halo for reading terminals)

That is not to say Marathon is worse for not delivering the story differently, but instead saying the a lot of players (including myself at first) rocketed through the game without giving the text a second thought. This might not be the best option for today’s video games, because it simply doesn’t spoon feed you the story. If you have read (and understood) the terminals in Halo 3, you might agree with the argument that the story told through them is better than any other storyline in the series.

Philosophy of storytelling aside, I’m glad someone caught the mys7erious thread title:D

This was the best search match I could find to talk about myr ecent love of Halo Wars. When I first started playing the campaign a few weeks ago I wasn’t too impressed, and even now I realize how limited the game is, and how frustrating it is to not be able to create patrols or take advantage of terrain in creating bases, or creating separate squads taking different tacks for the same goal, but man if it isn’t fun. What I would give for an all-out Halo Wars 2 that gives the player the Flood, a Covenant storyline, and more traditional RTS options.

I’ve got to be closing in on that 24 hour achievement.

Halo Wars was very interesting to me. As a fan of other RTS games, I enjoyed the sheer amount of control available to me. As a Halo fan, on the other hand, Halo Wars was bound to be loved by me from the moment of inception.

They did a good job using the controller to control the armies. I too felt that some more elements from traditional RTS games were needed, but overall I wasn’t disappointed with the game. I found the story fun and the gameplay more fun, and while the multiplayer has issues (warthog rushes suck) I think the game definately deserves a sequel and more features are bound to be added.

With Ensemble studios gone, it’s not clear if there will be a sequel though… Perhaps another company will take a stab at a halo themed RTS that is entierely different, similar to how the star wars series has had multiple attempts (force commender, galactic battlegrounds, and Empire at War)

Halo wars had the best cut scenes EVER!

They were pretty god damn cool. Nothing like seeing a group of spartans go into combat like that. Damn.

or… knife to the Arbiter’s throat!

Just jumping in to post this; one of the most impressive ads for a game I’ve ever seen. This is for the upcoming Halo: ODST
