The Kurt Russell Trilogy

You don’t need to break this up into 3 podcasts just one will do.

  1. Big Trouble in Little China, need I say more this is the manliest movie ever filmed. Kurt really knew how to put women in there place in this movie. The man sweats testosterone.

  2. Escape from New York, fun fact I drive across the bridge in the movie every day to work. Yes New York did not look enough like a hell hole so they came to East Saint Louis to film the really crapy parts. I love how Kurt plays it “I’m so damn cool I’m to cool for even this eye patch”

  3. Finally His best work The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, just kidding but that was a great flick now on DVD.

  4. The Thing, The original 51 version is my favorite black and white monster movie and you can see directors using ideas and shot from that film to this day. The 82 remake is more true to the book it was based off of, and are main man Kurt is right in the thick of it.

So what do you guys think go for the Kurt hat trick in one show?

Awesome idea. Escape from New York, one of the top ten films ever made. And Big Trouble is awesome-erific. And my poser ass has never seen The Thing, so it’s a good excuse. Or maybe throw Overboard in the mix? (joke)

So I decided to watch Escape from New York for the first time yesterday because of the FSFL. I agree that the idea is cool but it is one of the biggest piles of craaaaaap I have ever seen. A lot of older movies age well but this ain’t one. That isn’t helped by the fact that Kurt Russell has less emotional range then Ben Stein. Proving once and for all that he is teh suck. Sorry to all the fans out there but I can’t get on board with this one. Is it just nostalgic or what? Let me know where the love for this comes from because i don’t understand.

this arc would be fun but soldier should be included… most forget it but to me truly great sci fi.

I think it’s nostalgia for me. I loved it as a kid. I wanted to grow up to be Snake Pliskken. Ive seen it several times and I can’t figure out if it was meant to be ridiculously corny in a pulpy kind of way, or if it was just ridiculously corny. I love the soundtrack either way.

I love Overboard! Let’s do eet!

When I read this I hadn’t seen EfNY in over 15 years so I decided to go back and see if it was true. Sadly, this is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. I loved this film as a kid and Snake was such a Bad-sorryBarb! Upon rewatching I found Snake was a douche who had no energy or charisma through the entire film. The most captivating and interesting character was the Dukes second in command (he was so freaky). Now I have to go and watch Big Trouble in Little China but I’m afraid of what I’ll find. Alas poor Kurt Russel, I thought I knew him to be awesome, but I find he’s just boring.

Hmmm, I’m gonna have to do a re-watch. I haven’t seen this in a while. I loved it as a child also. The Duke! The Duke!!

Ha! There it is ^ You are the Snarkey Snootle. You are A#1.

I saw Escape from LA on TV the other night. I wouldn’t call it a pile of crap. It was fun to watch and Steve Buscemi is great as always. I guess it falls into the “it’s so bad it’s good” category. A surf board/car chase? really? What’s next a vine/jeep chase?

There was a good Kurt Russell movie a few years back about kidnapping truck drivers, but I can’t remember the name of it.

Big Trouble in Little China

I just saw that this past year. BadgerSpoon mentioned it so we setup a frak party and watched it. Great 80’s flick.

Yeah, that’s another one of those “it’s so bad it’s good” movies. I loved his over the top John Wayne impersonation. The one I was thinking of is “Breakdown” (I googled it). Kathleen Quinlan played his wife and Mr. Friendly from Lost played one of the truck drivers. You guys should frak it.

I’m glad that I’m not alone. I had heard so many GWCers give it high praise I was worried. As I said, the whole idea was unique back in the day but we have seen so much amazing stuff since that it just falls flat. I really hope they do a good job on the remake. Looks like they have a good writer so maybe it will be able to reclaim its greatness.

David Hasselhoff’s Nick Fury reminds me of Snake Plisskin. In some ways I think Hasselhoff did a better job :o

Who the heck do you get to play Snake Plisskin? All the guys I can think of are too old.

I guess they had Josh Brolin lined up originally.

If I was a movie producer I would say Shia LaBouf. :stuck_out_tongue:

As a Lost fan and a fan of great actors I will say Josh Holloway FTW!
