OMG, i just remembered one of my favorite almost unwatchable train wrecks of a movie, The Ice Pirates. Cheesy, easy, a little sleezy, with sfx that would make any ten year old yawn, I laugh whenever I see it…who can forget the immortal line, “Space Herpes!”
Oh my gods…I haven’t thought about this movie in 20 years. I was the target audience at the time…teenage boy. I remember loving this movie.
I looked up some interesting facts:
Starring
Robert Urich
Anjelica Huston
Bruce Vilanch
Tagline
SEE A Universe on the rocks TREMBLE at the ferocious space possums! CATCH Space Herpie the Love Bug
Factoid
Sound effects of the motorcycles are the same used for the light-cycles in Tron (1982).
I may have to go and buy this and destroy a childhood memory!
Wow! I wonder if this was what propelled Anjelica Huston’s career into stardom. (I especially loved her in The Addams Family movies.)
Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
You gotta love a movie with Space Herpes and kung fu robots!
I bought Ice Pirates recently on a bad sci fi binge, along with Time Bandits, Zardoz, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Krull, and Hawk the Slayer.
LOL! good one! Well her father being the legendery director Jon Huston and her being a model and Jack Nicolson’s girlfriend for 16-20 years helped too.
OMG! You have a copy of Hawk the Slayer!!! I am so jealous!
My Blockbuster put Ice Pirates up for sale recently but I had no money. I really should go see if it is still there.
KRULL!!! I love that movie!, it is so bad but I love the Slayers. Added them to my D&D campaign back in the day.
I was home sick a few weeks ago and watched Ice Pirates on my Xbox360+Netflix. I was actually surprised at how good the film looked on a digital TV.
I forgot exactly how bad this movie was. But I still love it.
Didn’t this movie have an R2-D2 garbage can that would lick it’s lips after they throw trash into it? I haven’t seen this movie in over twenty years.
Now you’ve got my attention…
I vaguely remember that robot. And, I haven’t seen it over a decade. The last time I saw this movie, it destroyed my childhood memory. It’s one of the few movies I went to see with my late father (Superman II and Robocop being a few of the others). I think he just wanted to see what happened after the castration machine appears. (:
