The Hirogen

I’ve recently been rewatching Voyager Season 4, and I had forgotten a how few episodes the Hirogen were actually in. I’d say that even though they were only in a few episodes, they were the best of the villains that were developed for Voyager (the Borg were better villains on Voyager, but they were introduced well before the series).

Anyone know why they ended up being in so few episodes?

Since Voyager was flying through sectors of space on their way home to Earth, they would stay in any particular location for very long. Hence the idea to have many tiny arcs (Kazon, Vidiians, Species 8472, Borg, Krenim, Hirogen) of three or four episodes. The Borg became the baddie, obviously because of their popularity and presence in the Trek universe.

In Next Gen, the Borg were only in three or four episodes. And they were awesome. In Voy, they were in every other episode, and the awesome was somewhat diluted.

I agree, the Hirogen were excellent adversaries. I particularly enjoyed “The Killing Game

The build up to entering Borg space was the best of Voyager. That was truly awesome.

After the 7 of Nine deal, Borg episodes didn’t do it for me much. I love Jeri Ryan, I love 7 of Nine having funny interactions with the crew, but i did not enjoy most 7 of Nine centric Borg episodes… they were often pretty dumbed down action stories…

The only exceptions were Borg children episodes, and the one where 7 of Nine wired a bunch of Borg’s minds together to prevent them from fleeing when she was still in the collective.

Well, the extent of the Hirogen communications array and the fact that they were scattered into tribes seemed to be setting them up as being primary villains in more than 5 episodes (4 really since the Romulans were the main villains in Message in a Bottle)

Yeah, just watched that last night.

I’d vote for Species 8472 as being the best of the villains developed for Voyager. I also think they were severely underdeveloped and underutilized.

that season 5 episode when they discovered Species 8472 were preparing to take human form and infiltrate Star Fleet and finally come to an understanding between the two species were truly wonderful…

but that was the end of 8472…

I still remember the best part of the Voyager game Elite Force was getting hunted by a Hirogen…

i miss that game… that and Bridge Commander, two of the best Trek games ever.

That was a great game both 1 and 2. As much as I like and enjoy STO, we need a decent FPS badly.

the best part about Elite force was the story. I think after Half Life, the Elite Force was the best FPS with a story line for a while.

I remember seeing the Borg for the first time in Elite force… it was terrifying. Then stupid 7 of nine made the I-mod and then Bogs became giant turkeys…

Sort of, they were still kind of scary, but not too difficult. I think the only thing I didn’t like was what they did to Species 8472. They basically turned them into fast zombies that charged you, and died in one or two shots. They were also too small.
