Many GWC readers and listeners love to read, and there’s nothing more fun than getting together with other like (or ever dissimilar) minded friends to expand your library. So we’ve created a special place for everyone to get together and do just that.
Here’s how it works:
This – the Book Selection – forum is where we all can discuss what book we should read next. Feel free to join existing discussion or to post your own suggestion in a new thread.
On the 15th of each month, we’ll collect up the current candidates, and we’ll post a poll thread so everyone can vote for their favorite. We’ll close the poll on the first, and the winner will serve as the club’s “book of the month” for that month. We’ll announce each “book of the month” on the podcast so anyone interested can get down on the group read.
We’ll then add a new thread in the Group Read Discussion forum specifically for the book, and anyone who’d like to participate can jump in and comment away. We’ll leave the threads open indefinitely so if you don’t finish before the end of the month – or are joining the club late and would like to discuss past books – you can.
Enjoy.
Update: It makes things a bit easier if you title your thread with the name of the book and the author – or at least mention these two bits of information somewhere in the post.
Update 2007-12-01: As we’ve begun to see more and more great suggestions, we’ve updated the selection process just a bit. Starting this month we’re going to pull in the books headlined in the 20 most recently updated threads for the vote. So if you’ve suggested a book in the past and would like to see it in the list, remember to give it a bump before the 15th of the month. And don’t be afraid to include new suggestions or bump other’s suggestions that you like. Our goal is to select from the 20 books everyone’s talking about the most!
