The Fountain

I know it got very mixed reviews, but I just watched it and absolutely loved it. Really, REALLY, great Sci-Fi distilled into such a pure form. I think you guys would really dig it. Darren Aronofsky (Pi) supposedly conceived of the idea for the movie after seeing The Matrix, which he saw as something swinging the door wide open for Sci-Fi. I recently listened to all of the Matrix podcasts and they shed such a new light on all of them for me. I think you could do the same thing with The Fountain. It’s really fascinating how he shot it with half the original budget by doing a lot of macro cinematography of growing yeast, swirling paint, etc instead of expensive CGI.

This film was discussed here earlier this year, and you’d be surprised (or maybe not) how many folks did NOT like it at all. I for one loved this movie, but I think its cryptic approach to ideas of love and eternity were a bit much for some people to grasp.

Also if you like this movie, you might be interested in another cryptic yet emotional and moody film call “the nines”. Check it out, I really enjoyed it.
