I would like to nominate this book again for the same reasons, I stated in the last book selection round. It is one of my favourite books and deserves a wider reading audience.
This is one I’ve been meaning to read forever. And I think that it just got recommended by that “Book Lust” librarian on NPR, so it might be easier to find in bookstores now.
— posted in wrong section… sorry —
The Forever War is a truly wonderful book, particularly for those who have read Starship Troopers.
Oh yeah, my parents gave me the S.F. Masterworks edition for Christmas, I’m looking forward to read it again.
I just read the book last night, but the ending gave me a major WTF moment. It felt kind of rushed and from deep left field, but better than some cliché ending I suppose.
I started re-reading The Forever War - the first time I read it, I checked out an old copy from my university’s library, now I own the SF Masterworks edition and it says in the preface that he wrote two separete middle sections of this book, one a bit more cheery than the rather dismal original and that most of the editions up to around the early 90s had the “wrong” middle section and that he only recently agreed to restore the original version.
