There is a single, all powerful (sort of) God a/k/a “IT”. Right? But nobody “knows” that, so the humans can go on with their polytheism and the good S7 Cylons and FF with their monotheism.
Does it also mean mean Cylon religious doctrine got handed down in the Middle East?:D:D
Looks like it.
I thought Baltar’s speech at the end suggested that the monotheism vs. polytheism is a false debate. It’s unimportant, except to acknowledge that a mystical force exists and has been providing a guiding (though not active) role throughout the series. Clearly we saw this force did have multiple personalities in the form of the Head 6, Baltar & Leoben angels. However, it could be argued that these are just different personalities of the same entity. In this context its possible to see monotheism and polytheism as different metaphors man and machine used to understand this force. And it was ironic that they would choose to fight over something as silly as different metaphors when in fact they are actually worshipping the same thing…
Good thing this story is complete fiction and doesn’t have any relevance to our world…

Especially one named “IT”. (Or “Itt” if we use the spelling from The Addams Family.)
(Although Baltar’s head character, when in Times Square, spoke in terms of some sort of a single “big cheese” in the background.)
That is how I look at the world religion situation anyway. Well said. We fight centuries religious wars for no reason… at the end of the day its all the same.
Taoism
has probably come the closest to getting this view down as doctrine.
I am no religious expert but to me, at the end of the day a different religion is no different than speaking a different language. Its all about communicating with a higher power and I think the head characters were manifestations (seraphs-angels -beings of light-ambiguous) that were purposely written this way to allude to those ideas.
Thanks for reading
Baltar and the Baltarettes must’ve settled in Syria/Lebanon/Isreal/Palenstine area.
The reason why IT doesn’t like to be called god is because it is actually pronounced as “I.T.”
You see, I.T. guys are gods. If they want to give you hell and not fix your critical systems, or decides to frak with your critical systems, then you’d be having a really bad day.
That goes for the guys on Galactica and in the Cylon colony. That’s why I.T. is god.
IT’s not, but you can’t tell the I.T. guys that…
Yes.
