The Avengers

I think you missed one. The Mark I is actually his birthday suit.

The one he starts Avengers with is the Mark VI, it looks slightly different from the one in Ironman 2. IMHO…

Saw this movie last weekend in 3D. It was amazing. The interplay between all the characters was done so well. The fact that there was fighting with in the ranks was so Avengers. They can do a job together but don’t always get along. The whole mistrust of S.H.I.E.L.D. By Tony and even Bruce was defiantly something that was needed. Then the way Cap just went and found the Hydra weapons because “the computer was going to slow was funny.” Thor getting sucker punched by Hulk funny stuff. Joss did an beautiful job of directing this movie. Toby was so arrogant and cocky taking his suit of to threaten Loki. There wasn’t a dull moment in the whole movie. I want to see it again.

Just a thought: Iron Man’s suit would require software as well as hardware upgrades.

Joss Whedon needs a medal I don’t care which one find one and pin it on him or give him a slap on the back or buy him a beer or something frak it.

Yes, I finally managed to get to a cinema ok so I had to travel 725 miles to Sweden but it was worth it. OK I should probably explain as I have a 4 month old son at home getting out can be a little tricky, work sent me away for a couple of nights so I took a sneaky trip to the local multiplex.

Multiplex is probably a little grand but it was fine. I guess Tuesday nights arn’t much of a movie night for the Swedes as I was the only patron to the film tonight, in fact i might have been the only paying customer in the whole place it might seem and yes I was asked to lock the door on the way out.

Anyway back to the more important matter. It would appear Mr Whedon has managed to find the film equivalent of a graphical equalizer. It seemed that he had balanced all the levels just right information, action, humour etc… You could just as eaisly not have seen any of the preceeding films to still really enjoy this one i think.

As for Ruffalos’ Banner, I think I know the secret. I picture just before every take Whedon sneaks up behind Ruffalo with a jerry can and a box of matches. Whedon proceeds to fill Ruffalos’ shoes with petrol. Whedon then whispers in his ear “If you don’t get all your lines on the first take, you’re not getting paid”. As Ruffalo steps onto set his feet are promptly ignited. Either that or Ruffalo has some mad skills he was absolutely fantastic to watch and certainly made the film for me, the best I’ve seen since Ledgers’ Joker I think.

Whoa buddy. I cant believe how wrong I was to be so scared.

Well paranoia is quite necessary in this day and age to fight the entropy of hype. But I was glad to be quite wrong about this movie. I have seen it twice.

Finally saw The Avengers. Unholy Crom! What a well crafted and absolutely jar dropping film! I’m not sure what to add to what has already been said. There are a couple of scenes I want to point out that made me just frakkin awed. The first was when everyone is in the command center and talking at the same time. It was a blurring scene as the camera circled the characters and caught pieces of their arguments. I could not believe what I just witnessed and my brain was able to process it.

Unlike several action films before it, the Avengers doesn’t indulge in technical prowess and allow characterization and plot suffer. It is a completely balanced film, ironically or not about unbalanced characters. Ladened with quick scene changes and manic line delivery (especially from RDJ), the film does not tax your senses or lull you off to sleep with a CGI ballet. From the moment it starts it grabs your attention and does not let go until the house lights come back on. Even longer perhaps since I continue to find myself thinking about several scenes.

Whedon is economic with his choices. In the scene that introduces Black Widow, he quickly shows why she is an Avenger. Throughout the film he continues to layer on that characterization and allow the character to evolve.

Whedon uses the camera carefully to focus on the character he wishes to accentuate. RDJ walks in and the camera follows him while he spurts out techno babble. It stops on Banner for a moment so he can answer Stark. Stark acknowledges with a “Finally someone who speaks English” and the camera lingers on the two as the scene progresses. This is wonderful story telling and effective use of the “stage”.

Some may criticize that Whedon is still filming for the small screen but I am not a fan of the overly dramatic and Michael Bay cinematic style. I have no doubt that Whedon will only improve and adjust his camera style as he receives more offers for the big screen.

I was wondering whether Iron Man or Captain America were going to dominate the film. Turns out Banner / The Hulk steals the show. That was a pleasant surprise.

Totally agree with everything you say. Definitely very impressed how ALL the characters were served in a satisfying way. To me, the story seemed to be written as a Tony Stark story— sort of beginning and ending with end —but, as you say the Hulk stole the show. Very awesome movie.

well … very late to the game on this one.

Mrs Oddball and I finally got around to seeing this masterpiece. Money well spent. Already on our Amazon Blu-Ray wish list for family night re-watch.

Lots of great stuff. Our personal favorite was a scene when Pepper seductively whispered in Tony’s ear then pulled away and smirked “Work Hard”. My wife did the knee grope and whispered in my ear “she stole my move”. That usually gets me to log off and head to bed

In general, this piece of art falls into my “Van Halen” category of art. Everyone loves it … even those who say they don’t will (after 3 beers) begrudgingly admit … “yeah … I like it too … hand me another beer”.

And then there was this … not a Delorean … but a real eye catcher!!

A 2014 NSX will be awesome! Especially if it had Marvel (Ironman, Avenger) badges … Like the Transformers Camaro.

OB

Respect the cassette player

A gag reel video was out on Aug 22nd and pulled. I found this one of it (well most of it I think) with a sound track added. Watch it while it’s still up! Disney had the vid pulled…watch for it to be on the DVD release on Sept 25th.

My favorite part…

Bah who put that music into the first clip? The second one was so much better because I could actually, you know, hear it.

I think that was done to keep it from getting pulled immediately for copy-write infringement by YouTube’s monitoring. Most of it is out there in small chunks if you search for “Avengers gag reel” on YouTube.

That’s why the filter is on it too. Youtube has an algorithm that searches for the video/audio of copyrighted stuff after they get a takedown notice so if you ever see a video that’s mirrored that’s why that was done also
