The 'Alien' movie that almost was

Empire online has an article out about the behind the scenes of Alien3, and the original concept of a ‘wooden planet’ that was eventually scrapped for the prison planet that we see in the movie. Check it out here, it is an interesting read.

Very interesting, thank you for sharing this!

"In late 1988, burly, blond Finnish helmer Renny Harlin…His “first principle”, he states on the Alien Quadrilogy’s excellent documentary, was that he wouldn’t copy either Scott or Cameron. “My original approach was that we place the story on the planet where the Aliens originate from, and really explain what they are, and maybe that they’re not born to be bad after all.”

That sound really interesting. I hope that’s where the Prequel is heading.

Thanks Baconface, interesting.
After all these years of re-watching the films and having those images in my head, I find they still thoroughly make my skin crawl on a primal level.
They so creep me out.
Brilliant.

if you got big dvd anthology, they have some pretty indepth features on the original concept, and how it changed and evolved to the actual movie.

I have nothing but respect for David Fincher concerning Alien 3. He was royally screwed over by the producers and the studio, most of his filming days he didn’t even have a script and unlike Scott and Cameron before him, this was his first feature film. I’m still surprised he opted to make Fight Club for them.

Really interesting read; thanks.

I agree: Alien 3 gets a bad rap. I think its cardinal offense is that it’s not what most folks want from an Alien movie. Especially after Aliens.
