Hey guys,
A bunch of you helped out Team Elena in our March for Babies/March of Dimes efforts last year, for which we are still grateful. Well, the time has come again for the March for Babies and Team Elena is back in training. Here’s the official message from team captain, The Mrs.:
I’m walking in March for Babies in honor of my younger daughter Elena, born more than 12 weeks early in September 2007. Every dollar you give to sponsor my walk on April 30th is 76 cents directly benefiting research and funding to hospitals, helping other families like ours survive a very difficult time for the great reward of bringing home a healthy child. Donate $5 to cover a bottle of hand sanitizer. Donate $20 for a box of diapers, $100 for a dose of antibiotics, $200 to pay a nurse’s salary for one shift, any amount is welcome.
Last year, I set a goal of $500 for Team Elena, which was met. I upped the goal to $1000, and we met it again! This year, I know we can raise so much more than that with our wide network of loving friends! Contact me if you’d like more information about donating, or if you’d like to join Elena and me at Cameron Run Regional Park in Alexandria, VA on Saturday, April 30th at 10 am for a 3 mile walk. Thank you for your support!
The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
Funds raised in March for Babies support research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. And they will be used to bring comfort and information to families with a baby in newborn intensive care.

Old timers will remember our littlest Cylon, Elena, was born 13 weeks premature in September, 2007. The support (http://forum.galacticwatercooler.com/showthread.php?t=161&highlight=thoughts+prayers ) we received from the GWC community then was amazing and Elena remains, in my mind, this community’s adopted daughter (the first of many, as it turned out!). The care she received at the Neo-natal unit of Crouse Hospital in Syracuse literally saved her life, and we are doing this each year to help make sure that other premies receive such excellent care and that research continues to improve these little ones’ chances.
Elena (and I, and The Mrs.) thank you.
