Talk About TV Shows...

Thank you very much! Cleolinda’s recaps of the Twilight series are brilliant fun.

If I remember correctly (it’s been a while since I’ve read the first one) season 1 = book 1, so you should be safe from most spoilers. The only thing I’m not sure of is Admiral Cain’s character - I can’t remember if what she is is revealed in book 1 or 2, but I think it’s 2.

So, I’ve been a TiVo user for nearly a year now. And I love it.
I love how they keep adding innovations.

A while ago they gave TiVo users access to YouTube directly from your TiVo-connected TV.

And today, they now let you watch streaming Netflix directly from your TiVo connected TV.
Very cool!

Yeah, I was playing around with the whole Netflix Watch Instantly thing on Tivo… and I’m impressed. The integration is very slick.

So I was watching Legend of The Seeker because I read the books and kinda loved them, but I gotta tell you the show has veered so far away from the book series that my OCD won’t let me enjoy it. I can tell that they’re going somewhere neat with the story arc but I just can’t reconcile the differences.

OMG you are not kidding. I just read all the recaps and could not stop laughing. The best thing ever.

Anyone watching Californication season II? (Or, as it might be called, Leoben’s Adventures in Cali?)

My wife and I are big fans of Weeds, but we’ve never seen Californication.
A good show, eh?

I don’t know that I’d buck up for a DVD set, but it’s a nice popcorn watch from week to week. I’ve never seen Weeds – so much TV, so little time – but from what I can tell, the Weeds set likes Californication. Cali’s a really adult show about a blocked writer who spends his time sexin’ and boozin’. This season, Leoben plays his running buddy, a famous record producer in a state of permanent adolescence.

There’s some interesting relationship stuff in there that I think would be lost on single viewers. Duchovny has a kid with his on-again, off-again soulmate. And that’s the heart of the show.

So i finished watching Summer Heights High a couple days ago. Great little show from the land of Oz.

Its a Mocumentry that is set in an Australia Public High School. It centers around three characters played by the same guy. Mr. G is am effeminate self deluded Drama teacher with a grand plan. J’aime is a valley girl like exchange student from a rich private school who is there to see what its like going from an exclusive snobby private school to a “no offense, povo public school, oh my god.” And filling one of the role as my favorite character is Jonaha, a Tongan 8th grader who just wants to break dance but school and the system keep getting in his way, also the way he bullys the year 7s.

Its a great show very funny at times yet kinda tragic. You can catch it on HBO. I really hope they do a second season but if not i think it can be satisfying as a single season.

I’m a sucker for Aussie accents so even if Summer Hieghts does not sound like my cup of tea

Try as I might I can’t stand that show. Chris Lilley just rubs me up the wrong way.

Chloe (from 24) is on Conan. And she’s wearing this dress that is… umm… really, really low-cut. In the front. I can see her boobies. This feels wrong.

Wait…Boston Legal aired its last episode months ago. The firm tore itself apart once they all found their way off the island and discovered that Boston was just a nuked out wasteland run by ancient Romans who liked holophone operas.

I didn’t. I’m not a big enough fan of that show to buy the DVDs. But the final season aired in the U.S. last fall, with the final episode having been broadcast in December. (Don’t worry, I won’t tell you what REALLY happened. You’ll enjoy it.)

Just a few recommendations about new TV shows I saw recently that I like a lot:

Southland: Cop show set in LA. Pretty serious shit… and pretty heavy, and very stylish. A lot of hand-help work, but very polished, and good cast. Could turn into the most gritty and beautifully shot series on TV (since The Wire is no more), or it could turn pretentious and gimmicky. First episode was reminiscent of “Training Day”.

The Unusuals: A lighter-hearted cop show, with younger cast. I thought this was gonna be the Scrubs of cop shows, but turns out not nearly as goofy… in fact, there’s a bit of a grim seriousness in the plot line that doesn’t seem to mesh perfectly with the silliness of the some of the characters. Very likable, but I’m not sold on it yet.

Better Off Ted: I’ve only seen the pilot so far, but I LOVE THIS SHOW. It’s the kind of over-the-top humor that I love, with a very likable cast, including Portia Lindsay Bluth DeRossi, and Dave Chappelle! I’ll definitely keep watching this one.

I’ve heard great things about all these shows. I want them, therefore, to have a life. That’s why I’m not watching them. Almost every show I get into gets canned before its time.
