The first book i read as a teenager the book that changed my life
You can’t just leave it there! How did it change your life?
Is this thread some kinda joke on Tai Chi and Cavil or is there actually a book behind all this? Cause I googled it but didn’t really come up with anything.
first off i’m an idiot or just a bad speller James Clavell
set in the early 1800 (or so) after the British seized Hong Kong.
This book shows the complexity of two societies at war, with each other on a cultural level, it shows people as not just good or bad, both, what people will do for there own ambitions, ideals and for those they love, it shows religion from the perspectives of believers and those using it for there own ends. its political thriller set back in the past and it shows you from the greater perspective how small we really are.
Shogun is the authors most famous novel but for me this was the kind of story that made me need to find out more than just the superficial facts of history but there context. and people behind those facts you read on wikipedia showing us the hard truth of slavery and discrimination, against women. and minorities and that much has changed in this world. but we as a people and a society haven’t
okay i’ll finish up now cause its all very subjective to myself, and i’m going a little overboard on the praise. its a well done Period political thriller with a very, cool ending
cool- found it now!
I very much enjoyed this book as well NB. Have you read Pillars of the Earth? I imagine you would also enjoy that as well.
That’s my mom’s favorite book. I think she recently read the sequel too.
I read Shogun and Gai-jin. I like Cavell and because my mom was retarded for Richard Chamberlain I watched the series as a kid long before I picked up one of Cavell’s books. I’ve not read Taipan though. Maybe I’ll swing by the Library tonight.
